I have some cables lying around some with threaded ends some with ball ends. I don't know the numbers so would need somebody to take measurements.

Thanks

Charlie

I just ordered part# 105542 from mowerpart.com which was $47.70. That was the cheapest I could find. I had other parts I ordered from there also which made the shipping a little more reasonable. I don't currently have the time to make one so I chose to buy instead.

There's also good tips about building cables in this old topic. (Found it in a corner in the basement :omg: ) http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/index.php?showtopic=1663 It had some nice pictures in it. Maybe if TT reads this and still has those old pics kicking around somewhere we could put them back in. Even without the pictures, good technical reading on cable building.

I have built two of these cables, one for my "not-exactly an 854" and one for my 1969 Charger (similar to the C series).

For this cable I used cable clamps and a thimble (if you don't know what a thimble is look here: http://www.usrigging.com/thimbles.html )

I do not have any slot-hitch implements, so my experience my only partially apply.

The biggest issue is that even when the bottom hole of the lift mechanism is used, the different between all the way up and all the way down is minimal. I am using a Brinly to Slot adapter and have found I HAVE to use the hole that makes it protrude farther out or with implement drags in the UP position OR does not go far enough down int e DOWN position.

My second attempt was with the Charger. Based on the previous experience with the 854 I decided I needed to make sure that the the back end of the cable can go as high as possible before it hits the conduit at the top. I found one clevis to use and put that on the front end.

On the back end I slightly modified/bent the thimble and put it through the hole in the slot hitch. I also used only a single cable clamp to allow it to move further up in the up position. This worked well except for the problem below:

On both tractors I have had problems with the clevis pin breaking at the lift mechanism. On the 854 I assumed it was due to the makeshift and assymetrical way I attached it. (A large washer over the thimble and the pin run through all the way.

However on the Charge I broke the pin as well. Both pins were from an assortment I bought a while back (the so-called universal style with multiple holes). I never got back to it in the fall, my next attempts will be a clevis pin from the hardware store that is not too thin (I have been carrying that pin around in my pocket going on 5 months)!

Anyway, that has been my experience so far. I still think I am ahead in terms of $s, and suspect that I am close to having working cables!

:D :omg:
