Sparky-(Admin) 21,300 #5 Posted March 28, 2010 they where white in color with red decals like the GT-1138? There was never a GT-1138 Gary. There was an LT-1138 which was a verticle shaft lawnmower built to mow the grass and nothing more, and a GT-1100 or a GT-1142 that was a horizontal shaft garden tractor. rickv1957 72 #6 Posted March 28, 2010 The work horse was an economic version with a briggs engine,4 pinion,1" axle rearend,Rick
Retired Wrencher 5,440 #7 Posted March 28, 2010 :D so I take it then the work horse or 70`s-80`s version was a cheap copy?of a wheel horse. do not mean to offend anyone. :D
Kelly 1,029 #8 Posted March 28, 2010 In general GT in all brands of tractors just simply means Garden Tractor, and LT means Lawn Tractor, Wheel horse was not the only brand to lable them as GT and LT
hodge 6 #9 Posted March 30, 2010 so I take it then the work horse or 70`s-80`s version was a cheap copy?of a wheel horse. do not mean to offend anyone. Not a cheap copy. No frills, and a Briggs engine. Many horses came with 1" axles and 4 pinions. The decks were the same, frame the same, all wheel horse, just less expensive due primarily to the Briggs engine. Mine is just as tough and reliable as any other horse I have. It is my understanding that the Workhorses were going to be marketed through a big box store, but it didn't happen. They were only made for about 3 years. There is a picture of mine on this forum- 1984 Workhorse GT 1600
algrc120man 0 #10 Posted April 2, 2010 the tractors are good but the 11 hp briggs have a lot of valve trouble specifically the ex the seat pops out and sticks the valve open green loctite and a good peen job lasts for a while sometimes a long time so long as you keep the cooling fins clean. :omg:
