Others died so that one may live!

Hello all...

Awhile back I had purchased a 310-8 basically complete but with no front rims and at the same time I purchased a 310-8 carcass for the side cover and other parts I thought I could need to put the complete 310 back on the road. This morning I threw a set of rims on the front of the 310 and rolled it into my driveway, I picked up the 310 carcass with my loader and left it hanging nearby just in case. Well... after I did some tinkering I got the engine to run on carb cleaner but nothing else. The screen in the gas tank was plugged so I pulled it apart and cleaned it all out.... after going step by step I ended up taking the carb, fuel pump and a few other nic-nacs off of the carcass and I got the complete tractors engine humming along nicely. I had checked the trans-axle oil and noticed it was empty----judging by the amount of black crud on the trans-axle I could tell it was a serious leaker. Well I went and got two fresh quarts of oil and poured it in... I went in for a coffee and when I came out there was a 3' puddle on my driveway :omg: , so I say WTF--did some idiot take the drain plug out? I get on my knees and look underneath and there is a 1"x2" HOLE in the bottom of the trans-axle. :D So... I sit back and try to decide whether I should put a spare trans-axle in it or not---after 15 minutes of looking over the rest of the tractor I decided it was a goner. I opened up its wallet and found an "organ donor" card :D . I rolled over a very clean nice B100 complete with Brinly Hitch all setup and ready to go but sans engine---5-6 hours of tinkering and here she is ready to do battle with my back blade and york rake. :D

Just curious......how does one get a 1" x 2" hole in the transaxle housing???

It normally occurs when a nut on one of the bolts through the differential loosens and falls off, letting the bolt work out and catch inside the case. When the bolt catches, a piece breaks off and usually (ever hear of Murphy's law? :omg: ) gets pulled under the ring gear. The cast case is brittle and much weaker then the gear, so it breaks first.

The end result:

TT.

Is the hood and fender pan the same as a 312-8? They look the same to me. How much would you ask for both plus shipping? I could put my 312-8 back original. PM me at jerry.pugh5170@yahoo.com.

If you will sell and ship, more pics wolud help me decide if I want to spend that much. It's not the price of the parts sometime that kills the sale but the shipping cost.

Thanks.

Thanks for the comments everybody... I try to save every one I can---almost to a fault. But days like yesterday where fun and relaxing and definitely rewarding when the job is done and you turn the key and go for the first ride.

I keep buying tractors and tell my better half they are for parts, but then somehow they never get taken apart. I always tell her I'll get rid of some of the horses as I get the parts off of them. It never happens. She finally bought me a 12 x 16 shed and its full now. I tell her one day when I grow up I want to be just like Rick. When we go places she now actually looks for Horses in peoples yards. I'm lucky to have her.
