MaineDad 85 #1 Posted March 26, 2010 Guys, I have a replacement solid state coil for the 71 Bronco 14 on the way. What's the possibility of switching this back to using points, coil, and condenser? pfrederi 17,646 #5 Posted March 26, 2010 I would guess that the plunger hole has a welch plug or a cup shaped (think freeze plug) plug in it. The threaded hole above and below it are probably packed solid with dirt. I have a 310 from an electro 12 with the electronic ignition and with some cleaning I found the holes were threaded and there is a plug in the plunger hole. Sparky-(Admin) 21,300 #7 Posted March 26, 2010 Micah, my neighbor Tony (docwheelhorse) and I did this swap a few years back on a Charger 12. The hole for the points should be there and will just need to be punched out. Obviously you will need a set of points with a cover and gasket but also a coil, condenser and I think a new ignition switch, although I'm not positive about the switch part. I cant seem to remember back that far . We did have some issue with the ignition switch but I'm not sure if it was a bum switch or some bad wiring. But the point is it can be done. Mike.......... WheelHorse_of_course 99 #10 Posted March 26, 2010 Micah My 69 Charger works perfectly with the electronic breakerless ignjition, both on the original and the replacement 69 engine (that was a lucky break). I know you can zap the electronic ignition if you use an arc welder on the frame. I thought there was a mod in the manual to make them more reliable, but I looked through the Kohler books and I can't find anything.
