What can you do with a grader blade

I have been thinking about getting a mid mount grader blade but am curious about their abilities. I would guess that if you have small piles or rows narrower than the front wheels, you could level them out. What else can it do? There is no way to create a bevel or swale if you are trying to make a drainage path with one is there?

I have used a grader blade for everything except pushing snow,maintaining a gravel drive,grading dirt and you can even cut in a swale by rototilling swale area then moving out dirt and shaping with grader blade,Rick

When we decided to pave our circle driveway we wanted to prep the inside area of the driveway for flowers and grass and build a 6 inch high slate wall around it. But the ground on both sides were very uneven. One high and one low. That grader did a great job around the edges of the driveway getting everything level and even. It even leveled high and low spots in that entire area.

And now since my wife and kids can't drive a 6' wide car around a 13' wide driveway without driving over that wall and breaking all the slate I'm gonna move the wall further in and regrade for it to be moved further in!!

I have found the grader blade to be VERY handy. I use mine to maintain the driveway. Also, I filled in a low spot in the yard. The grader made QUICK work of leveling it out. :omg:

I was redoing some of my lawn and after spreading soil with a bucket, the mid mount grader blade did an excellent job of getting the area smooth. I was very impressed with it (and it was fun too!)

Thanks guys for the input so far. I don't have a lot of property to maintain and have a concrete driveway so it will have limited use. My main project is redoing my lawn after building a garage last year. I want to slightly reshape around the house and garage to put some swales in for better drainage. Also, I am going to get several loads of topsoil to add to low spots. Is there someone on the site making grader blades??? Is the newer wider version better that has the handle to change blade angle better? Thanks.

Ken from Mentone makes the reproduction blades. I think he goes by Fabricator on redsquare.

The new style blade is 50 inches wide, works much better on the B,C,300,400 and 500 series tractors than the old 40" blade. The 40" blade was designed for the smaller round hood tractors and works fine on them but is too narrow for the larger tractors.

You can also us a dirt/snow plow to do some grading. Its also cheaper than a grader blade. Did my drive last weekend with front blade worked nice.

They make a grader blade for earley roundhoods? Sweet, I gotta' check that out. have a snow plow, didn't think it would move dirt too easy, I'll give it a try! HORSEFEATHERS!

Just picked up a C81 with a mid mount grader blade. My grandson is leveling everything but the house with it.

One other question...will it work that well with a manual lift tractor. I don't have any that have the hydro lift but have on that I am going to put an electric attachment lift on it. Will that work out OK?
