Red Square Brothern, The forum has spoken! The verdict is in. A resounding vote to RESTORE! Justice will be swift ad served! I purshased this 854 for parts (one greenback c-note) thats right $100 bucks. Thought at the time, hay this tractor could be restored,it's all there and in reasonable shape! But... (inigition on brain off, I'am thinkin' rod, digger, muscle, sorry I've been bitten by that bug too!) Kriminal 854 was my first Wheel Horse and I must say I love the rust, it takes the elements a long time to create that kind of beauty!(some folks don't like rust, but I do) I could not, and will not! restore kriminal, with a "K"!, I thought a time long 'bout that name, 'cause I knew most tractor people would think it was CRIMINAL! not to restore it! Nothing I did here that can't be undone, some one shot pinstrip paint, a few "crow find "swap meet parts ,(bolt ons ), painted wheels and (tires, not original any way) Some day I may pass this on to someone that will restore it ! As for the other red meat! 854 I will restore it! I value your opinions, for the short time I have been here, I love Red Square! Hope I can do you proud! Thank You all for responding to my post! Can't wait to meet some of you folks at shows this year! Look for KRIMINAL & JUSTICE AT A SHOW NEAR YOU! HORSEFEATHERS! :omg:

There may tractors (or cars) that are truly a retore project. I base this on how many were bult, how many are left and the well the vehicle was presented with options. There are some tractors models that there plenty of and are "just" a lawn mower. To these everyday tractors, I say the walet is your only limit if you wish to make a rod out of it. With the others, such as the one in question here, I would restore to original and enjoy. Just my 2 cets as well.

:D Friends, Thanks for the replies. Been letin' this pot stew awhile, only one taker on the gasser style, Comes down to perfection or rejection, I'll try perfection! I love this place! Haasman35 you are right 'bout steering wheel 3 spoke, but everything else is the same as my other 1964 854 so is it a 63 or 64 ? Also the hood has 4 dime size holes top fornt corners and small holes w/rubber gromets are these for head lights? Factory? Or just some dentist with a weekend hobby? Engine is 8 horse kholer # is k181. Also muffler looks like original but is pointed up. This is'nt right I guess? Anyway , guy I got this from said 8 is 8 hp, 5 is manusl trans, 4 is model year, 854 never herd that before, true or false? any insight will help, you folks seem very knowledgeable. Glad I came here first! :omg: Red Square, were the Tractor Gods come out to play! :D HORSEFEATHERS!

8 is hp, 5 is electric start (0 would be manual or pull start), 4 is year 1964. That style of model numbering only worked in the 1960s.
