Wheel Sizes

I think most of all the Wheel Horse tractors have 12" tires with the exception of the GT. But how wide did they make a 12" rim? How wide are the rims on a 520 vrs other models. I thinking of going a little wider on my 520H. But know that to wide is a problem with the mower deck. Can any one shed some lite on this? Thanks all

Most later rims were 7" wide. Some 520's and GT1800's and maybe something else had 8.5" wide. Wider rears shouldn't interfere with the mowing deck.

A lot depends on the width of your mower deck. My 520 has a 48" deck and I'm using a 10.50" lug tire with no interference. You need a 8.5" wide wheel to mount a 10.50" wide tire on it. My wheels came off a Cub Cadet and the wheel offset caused the inside of the tire to touch the steel seat/fender mount under extreme conditions. I was given a set of 8.5" wide Sears wheels with a different offset that will move my tires approximately 3/4" away from the seat/fender mount. I had a new set of 10.50" lugs mounted on them and I installed them on the tractor last week. I haven't mounted my mower deck yet this spring, but I'm not anticipating any interference problems. They look real nasty on the back of my 520H.

I have 23x10.50 ags on my C-160 (8" rims) and 23x10.50 turfs on my 312 (7"rims) and have no problem with decks. I would want the wider rims if you were to go wider than 10.50 tires.

My 520 is a 1990 so it would have a 8.5 rim? What I was thinking was to buy rims that were maybe 9.5? To allow the 23x10.5x12 tire to appear wider. Im not planning on going to a wider tire, just a wider rim. But... maybe there are no wider rims to be had without customizing them.

I am curious. Why do you want wider tires?

Stability on slopes.

Less damage to turf?

? :D

BTW, you will get less traction.

:D :omg:

I don't want wider tires. I was thinking of just wider rims. This would allow more of the tread or the original tires to contact the ground.

My questions is, are there wider rims available? Of other models and brands etc?

I am probally the only person on this site that lives in Florida where sand is a problem. I have 23x10.5x12 tires on 8.5 rims and the sidewalls ballon out. That make them stay on top of the sand in the orange grove and give better traction. At the ranch, there is a lot of muddy spots and the tall narrow bar tires do best getting deep into the ruts and self cleaning themselfs.

I am not a tire expert but just know what works for me. It may not work that way where you live. I must admit that when it comes to appearance, the wide look is the way to go.
