Edge Trim

Recommended Posts

What has anybody used as a replacement for the metal edge trim on the D series tractors? I don't know if any other models use it or not. It is found around the fuel tank and hood area and it protects the metal edges.

Thanks,

A little late getting to you Doug. Thanks for the tip on this. A buck a foot is nice. Other than around the tank and around the front of the dash where the hood sits is there any other places this stuff is used on a "D?"

Man is it raining right now.

I use the edge trim found on old seats. It works well.

Hi folks. I am going to refurbish the gas tank on my D-180, and will be replacing the edge trim. The link that Doug posted for the ebay seller doesn't work.

I was wondering what dimension trim is appropriate for the D series gas tank? There are tons of different dimension trims available from the Trim-Lok folks. Before I order any, I want to be sure I am ordering the right stuff.

As an aside, I need to replace the shut off valve on my gas tank as the current one is rusted and missing the knob. Is there anything special about this particular shut off valve? Anyone know what the thread size is? I don't want to order such a generic part from toro or any or the secondary suppliers.

Thanx,

James

You can probably get the fuel petcock at Napa....might be part number 7-02351....looks like it in the catalog. If you have a camper place close check them out for the trim. Campers use that stuff. It is sized by width and thickness of the metal it is trimming.

Search trim lock in ebay...I got mine from R & P Carriages.....pretty sure it was 9/16 X 1/16.....

Like ebay number 290445288746.....

Thanx Bob. That was a great help. I finally located my caliper and measured the one that was on my tank - it was 7/16. I measured the metal that it covers, and it came up to 3/32. I measured it in several different places to be sure. Not that I have to be so exact, but I don't want to buy the wrong stuff and be stuck with it.

I'll search through napa for the petcock next time I get over there.

James

I only needed it for the hood area...I can see that the tank could be thicker metal on that edge and narrower molding. My tank molding was in good shape. I'm sure if you check the R & P Carriages ebay store there is a size you could use.

Thanx 73-18 automatic. Thanx Bob. Yes, the tank is thicker as it is two overlapping pieces of metal. I think I'll probably get a lengths of each size. One for the tank, and one for the hood.

There you go....one size fits all. Cool deal Doug. :) Now you can get 20 feet and not pay shipping James...have plenty left to help a friend, Hodge71 is in the Poconos. Maybe he will go in with you. He is restoring an 18 auto.

Thanx Doug and Bob. After looking for some of the specific size I thought was best (3/32), I find it is really difficult if not impossible to find in small quantities. I think I will use the size that Doug suggests for both. And I certainly will be happy to share with Hodge71.
