Operator 7 #26 Posted March 24, 2010 I think the hoods are different to accomodate the different dashboards. I dont know the maroon stripe tractors very well, but I know the hood off a 312A is different in the dash area from the one on my 520. Now that you mention that! I had a GT-1648 for a bit and that hood would be the same as 300-400 right? Not the same as 520 you are right! I was wrong Never to old to learn I guess. Torino 14 #27 Posted March 24, 2010 Thanks Randy. Your right Mike, I should have looked closer. The 520 has a cut out for the dash where the others don't. Looks like finding a hood just got a little harder. Well what do you know one just poped up on e-bay. Hope no one else in the world needs one but me. <_<
Torino 14 #28 Posted March 25, 2010 Just to make sure I got the right oil filter, this thing is really long twice the size of the one on my Onan b43g. Got it at NAPA there house filters are made by Wix. got part no. SFI 21516. Is this right?
Operator 7 #29 Posted March 25, 2010 Yup the same. One is longer than the other. I always get the big one. My wifes Jeep Liberty takes the same filter as my Horses! Randy
Torino 14 #30 Posted March 25, 2010 Blew the fuse for the gauges again. Going to have to go over the wiring. Where are the grounds located? Funny I read quite a few post on 520H through the years and don't remember reading about the wiring problems all I heard was what a great tractor it was. Torino 14 #31 Posted March 29, 2010 This oil filter is too long. 4.5". Can't get it in. Seems they are making this filter longer. The Onan filter that was in it is 4" long.
Operator 7 #32 Posted March 29, 2010 I could measure one of mine but they do go in, I sometimes take the rubber trim ring off then afterwards put it back, try sliding back of filter under battery then into engine filter mount.
Torino 14 #33 Posted March 30, 2010 Randy, I got it in. It's a tight fit for sure. I did go from under the battery.
bo dawg 516 #34 Posted March 30, 2010 Randy, I got it in. It's a tight fit for sure. I did go from under the battery. I know what you mean about the tight fit. I just went through all that. The Onan filter I took out of mine was P# 122-0800, 4.25" long. My closest Toro dealer has Stens for the replacement and shows the Onan P#, but it was over 5" long and would not make the turn into it. Everything they had was too long. I even tryed a Kohler replacement and it was 3.25" long, I didn't want to go too short. So I gave up and went with Purolator from auto zone, which was 4.5" long and it barely makes it in. You only have a little over 3" of clearance to work with. Never would of thought it would be that difficult. But would have to order online to get exact parts. I'm having the same problem with the air filter but I haven't been to auto zone yet. Not sure which P# from there to look for. I guess I'll take a tape measure with me. :omg:
WheelHorse_of_course 99 #35 Posted March 30, 2010 I did take it off but it does not have a screw it is a rivet. Tried squeezing it but that did not work. I also need the numbers for all the filters It may or may not be worth the trouble, but if you take it of and lay on side against a vide or anvil (or a concrete block) and give it a couple oif good shots with a ball pein hammer, that might tighten it up. Otherwise put a wanted ad here on RS and you may find one. Best of luck. :omg:
Torino 14 #36 Posted March 30, 2010 Do I just pull the knob off to get it out once unbolted. I was afraid if I pulled it off it might not want to stay on once reattached.
Horse Fanatic 49 #37 Posted March 30, 2010 You can't just squeeze them (the rivet) with a plier. Use a vice grip and give it a good pinch, if that's not enough, tighten the vice grip some more and do it again etc.
Torino 14 #38 Posted March 31, 2010 Glenn, that is what I did the first time. With my look that did not work. Looks like I am going to have to take it completely out and use more force. Looks like you can not take it off without taking the grip off. I was just wondering how good is it going to fit back once you take it off.

Look up above somewhere I gave Torino all the filter numbers Wix works and they can cross reference from them. The rubber knobers will pull off and on, I had to replace one and I just pushed it on.
