702 vs 753 steering arms and spindles

Recommended Posts

Horse'n Around

Hi,

Are the steering arms and spindles off a 753 the same as the ones on a 702? I looked at pictures closely and the front axle looks to be quite different and it appears that the spindles come off the axle at a different angle than on a 702 so Im not sure if they would be the same or not. If anyone can shed some light on this for me I would really appreciate it.

The steering arms and spindles on my 702 Frankenhorse have been drilled out and pretty much butchered by someone before my Dad bought it and in place of the roll pins there are rather large bolts and buts securing them and the spindles are worn from the bad bearings in the front wheels,I replaced the bearings and everything is still much too sloppy.

Thank you!

John

Not sure about the spindles themselves, but the axle and steering setup was completely different between 1962 and 1963.

Thank you for your reply. I appreciate it. I think that it could very well be possible that the spindles may be differnt as well, the front axle geometry looks like it may require the use different spindles.

Thanks,

John

61 and 62 front engined tractors and the only 63 tractor would be the 603 all use the same front axle and steering I have a few that have been welded on top of the spindle because they are worn out, good luck

The spindles and axle are different between the two models. The later axle has the kingpin bores inclined to provide some King Pin Inclination, whereas the earlier axle bores were straight up and down.

The steering linkages are different too.

You could swap the whole later axle, spindles, tie rods and lower steering shaft into the earlier frame if you needed to.

I've seen a few where the steering arms have been welded to the top of the spindles to cure the slop. :omg:

Mike I'm not sure the whole axle will fit with out frame mods, the early axle has I beleive a 5/8" pivot the 63's have 3/4" and I think the 63 newer axle is thicker, that's why the frame is bumped out at the axle mount.

Hi Darren,

Thanks for bringing them to my attention. They look to be in good shape. Im going to do what I can to see if I can win them if the bidding doesnt get so frenzied that I cant afford the parts.Well Im going to be crossing my fingers and see what happens.
