Electro12WH 50 #1 Posted March 11, 2010 I have a 4 speed Unidrive that I rebuilt last year. I didn't use it much because it had shifting problems. It doesn't want to go into reverse without working it back and forth between R&1. It seems as if something is loose. I just took it apart to see what I may have left out. ??? I couldn't find anything wrong. The rails and forks seem fine. It has a new detent ball and springs. The shift lever mounts fine. Any ideas?
Coadster32 793 #2 Posted March 12, 2010 Did you install the reverse gear upside down? B)

sorekiwi 761 #4 Posted March 12, 2010 Did you install the reverse gear upside down? That was my first thought too. One end of the gear will have a "lead in" ground on the end of the teeth to help it engage with the other gear. Make sure that the lead in's face each other. Electro12WH 50 #5 Posted March 12, 2010 The R-1 and 2-3 gears have the fork groove towards each other. The reverse idler has the bevel facing out away from the case.
