bell 11 #1 Posted March 7, 2010 Went and visited with Devin (fritz) and Gerald (gdpudge) today and came home with this... The hood had been off for a LONG time, as the steering wheel wouldn't budge. The engine is totally siezed up and will be making way to a recoil start K181. I started cleaning it up using the old "fine steel wool and WD-40" trick and I'm pretty impressed with the results. I'll have some more pics after I get done tinkering with it tomorrow. Thanks again Devin!

bell 11 #11 Posted March 8, 2010 Here's the pics as promised... Out with the old... In with the new... I got this engine from Pat (jusjeepin) about a year ago and never had a chance to mess with it. I changed the spark plug, didn't even clean the carb, and it fired on the third pull! Runs EXCELLENT!!! THANK YOU PAT! A quick mod to the LR belt guard and it now fits the Kohler... I cleaned it up a little (have lots more cleaning to do), put on a set of "right" wheels and tires and a seat I bought from Bill Jenkins at the show last year. Drumroll please..... bell 11 #18 Posted March 8, 2010 Thanks fellas... Stephen, I gen in my "zone" when I working on these things. It's amazing what you can get done when you're in the "zone". LOVE the Hobart. I tried a Century, then a Lincoln... In my opinion, the Hobart is the best of the three. I would like to try a Miller, but they are a little out of my price range. I was told that the Hobart is made by Miller now, and it came with a miller whip when I bought it. Thanks Ray! Roger, I'm used to working on off road rigs (Suzuki Samurai, Geo Tracker), so these things are really simple to me. Especially the older ones.
bell 11 #19 Posted March 8, 2010 It was raining last night when I finished it, so I didn't get to drive it too far. About 5 feet out of the garage door and back in. I woke up today and it is nice and sunny! A little seat time was in order. Things I need to address: The drive belt is making a slapping sound sometimes. The engine pulley is a little bent, so I think this may have something to do with it. It goes away if you pull on the clutch pedal and increase tension on the belt, so I think I'll change the spring while I'm changing the pulley. The recoil starter is working good, but you can feel it "skip" a couple teeth every now and again. The cup seemed to be a little worn, so I'll start by changing it. The muffler, it MUST go. It looks horrible on there. I have a early Kohler 1" muffler that I will probably put on it. Other than changing the grease in the transmission, painting the wheels and cleaning it up some more, that's about it. Here's a few pics in the sun!
