boatman 3 #1 Posted March 5, 2010 :party: Hi guys, I was wondering if it is posible to put the tack matic hitch on mid frame and also the front tack matic off the front of newer style tractors on the GT 14 so as to be able to use a mower from c series or 400 series tractor? Also does anyone know what part # key switch should be on 1969 GT 14? Tractor starts and runs great but doesn't seem to be charging. I haven't had a chance to diagnose yet. I need to get wiring diagram and correct ign switch #. there are a couple wires that come off ign switch that have been cut and I am not sure where they are suppose to go to. Brrly1 1,146 #5 Posted March 5, 2010 Boatman, you need to be very careful with that coil and pickup, if you get them wet, it can be very expensive to fix. Alot of people do away with them and switch over to points and regular coil. At which point they also have to switch the ignition switch to a different style of switch. I believe you can switch over to the tac-a-matic setup. I don't know much about doing that but I am sure there are people here who have done that. bowtieguy 334 #7 Posted March 5, 2010 I'll agree with John....be very cautious with that coil...it is expensive....when I got my 69 GT-14 several years ago, it had been sitting outsides for about 4 years cause the owner was in a nursing home and the kids would let anyone move anything until he died.....I bought it at his sale and switch was bad but I got the engine running after some minor stuff but it would not shut off...no problem, I'll just pull the spark plug wire off and kill the engine....never to start again....then I noticed the big caution decal on the engine shroud...DO NOT REMOVE SPARK PLUG WIRE WHILE ENGINE IS RUNNING. 100 bucks later and a new coil solved the problem.. Also FYI...if you order the 1969 manual from Toro you get SEVERAL manuals for many of the Wheel Horses that were manufactured in 1969...(GT-14 is included). You can also get a free download op manual from Toro if you use model # 1-7441 but you will have to buy the parts manual.....my manual is out on "loan" right now so can't get the swithch # for you ...but will later if you don't find it. I did enjoy talking to ya at the show last year and hearing all about your GT's.. I checked model 1-7441 at partstree.com and they list the switch # as 8362 and will cost ya almost 50 bucks!!...(item # 232 on parts list) John,....lets see....at that price you could sell all your GT switches and get RICH!! The only thing is I have basically switched everything over to points and standard coil. I have a couple of the coils and pickups also but they will just hang out in case I switch one back to the electronic ignition. Its a bummer you won't be there, I am hoping that maybe Glenn will be there, he has a couple of the GT14's also. bitten 134 #11 Posted March 5, 2010 The orange wire from the rectifier ( center wire ) goes to the R post of ignition switch. From the B post there is a orange wire that goes to the ammeter and after that a red wire to the solenoid. That makes up the wiring for the charging system. The ignition switch does ground out the coil to shut engine off. The switch # is 8362 and can be found used on ebay a lot cheaper then a new one if you need one. I'm not completely sure on this but I don't think you want to run the engine without a battery hooked up. As for the attach-a-matic going on the GT I think anything is possible but dont know what you would have to do. Good Luck. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Previous owner jump started tractor without the battery and had it running to load on my truck. I put a battery in it when I got home but amp meter doesn't show that it's charging.I haven't had time to ck wiring and see if that is an issue. there is a red wire that is cut off coming from ign switch tho.
