I know I am asking the write people about this Question. It is a simple one and I see it at times but did not pay it much attention. Does any one know the original wheel color?? of 60s/70s W/Horse tractors I have heard of beige but is this to dark. Or would be like a off white like Easter Lily or even White Chocolate?? these are a light creamy or light in beige color.so any one knows the original color it would help. T/you. I believe the original color was called linen beige. I use International Harvester white from Orchliens. Van Sickle paint if I remember right. Its pretty close.

Others will chime in and correct me and let you know what they use I'm sure.

In my OPINION There are 2 Colors to choose from here though I will reccomend 1.

The WH gurus say to use LINEN when using rattle can Krylon and I can see why. The White on the old tractors turned yellow with age. I found a NOS rim that had a tire on it and the ouside paint was yellowish...but when the tire was removed, the inside was not.

So, while Krylon Linen matched the outside paint, Krylon IVORY matched the inside.

It is my opinion that Wheel Horse white yellowed with age....so.....I paint the white on my tractors with KRYLON IVORY.

For those of you wishing to restore your OLDER [i have a B-80, C-81, 854 and a 653] Wheel Horse tractor to a color and texture as closely to what it looked like from the factory, [Without spending $$$ for custom car paint, [though if you want to create something showy, then I have no issue with that.] here are my tried and tested 'Rattle Can' secrets.

Now these are my OPINIONS from MUCH experiance restoring tractors and careful observation by doing color matches to origional

un-molested paint. By un-molested I mean un-faded and un-tinted by GRASS.

ONLY USE KRYLON SPRAY PAINT! [Do not use Rustoleum, Duplicolor or any other Brand.]

Sprays smooth with no runs [unless YOU mess up by getting to close or too heavy per coat...practice here!]

Dries FAST. [i have no patience!]

Easy to touch up if you scratch your tractor as it blends well.

IT IS ALSO THE MOST DURABLE RATTLE CAN PAINT ON THE MARKET. I have a old horse drawn plow that I did the below to that has been outside in the weather for 5 YEARS. I looked at it today up close and it is still PERFECT!

Strip all parts down to BARE metal. I use a grinder with a wire wheel for small parts and sand blast big stuff [or heavily rusted parts.] I go over even the sandblasted parts with a wire wheel on a hand grinder to smooth it off. If you have flaked rust, chip it off.

Wipe the parts down with Brake Cleaner to remove any dust, oil, etc.

Spray with Permetex Rust Treatment. This ENSURES that you will not have any rust-through.

Spray 1-2 coats of Krylon Grey Primer

Spray 2-4 coats of Krylon CHERRY RED GLOSS. [i have experimented with Krylon clear over this but it added nothing. It also impedes touching up the paint later.

Now, all that said, please just have fun with your tractor! I know of no concours judged events for Wheel Horse Tractors where your paint will be judged. Here is one of mine. Painted with Krylon and definitly having some fun with color! Painted the way it SHOULD have been painted from the factory!

Mike,

Two profiles showed up with a picture, two without. I didn't want to have to ask 4 strangers to to be added as friends just to view their photos. This morning I checked and there is his picture. Go figure. Maybe the hour was late.

From what I have read, I thought the color of the early WheelHorse wheels were more of an Almond color then an Ivory color. I look at my 1056 and the wheels are original and they are more of an almond then a white... let me know what you think?

I had the rims for my 1978 C161 powdercoated "Oyster White" (I believe the RAL number is 1013). The powdercoater and I matched them up to the white that was on the decals that I bought from Mayhew Reproductions and they turned out really nice. This color looks more like an ivory color.

Just to open this back up...Last year, I restored my C-195 and painted the wheels Krylon Gloss Ivory. When I was done, I thought they looked too white. Well, this year, I am restoring my C-141 and have just painted the wheels Krylon Gloss Almond. It is a little better I think. I also found old cans of Krylon Antique White. It looked similar to the Gloss Almond but the paint wasn't spraying too good so I stuck with the new cans of Almond.

YEARS ago when I was a newbie to this hobby and didn't know any better thanks to no resources like we have now on the internet, I painted the wheels white and I will tell you, it don't look right for a C-Series!!!! :D

I forgot to mention that the "oyster white" powdercoat that I used also matched the wheel hearing caps. It looked like a perfect match to me.

Well, here is a pic of my rear wheels painted with Krylon Gloss Almond. The one on the left is older paint and the one on the right is a new can. The older one is a little lighter! :D To keep from getting paint on the tire, I deflate them and stick the tape behind the wheel...With 10.50 on a stock wheel, the rubber is over the rim a little but have never had a problem yet!
