Terminal orientation, number of positions, ignition type, stem length, and mounting hole style/diameter make every switch design unique - even though they might have 5 male spade terminals. The proper switch (#101917 - as previously stated) for a 1973 12 Automatic would have four positions: OFF / ACC / RUN / START and can be replaced by the more common 103990 (three position OFF / RUN-ACC / START) unit if wiring connections are checked and corrected as necessary. (The plug is in bad shape) As long as I hook the 3 position switch up the same will it be ok? I will only use four of the wires and will not use the wire that go,s from the plug to the light switch since i have already hooked the lights to their own fused circut. Stens offers a universal pigtail for 5 terminal switches but the colors don't match anything I have ever installed one on. The lighting circuit was initially fed through the ignition switch to prevent shutting the tractor off but leaving the lights on (think daytime operation) which naturally "kills" the battery. The three position switch will work as long as it has the required I, B, S, and R (A is for accessory) terminals and is wired accordingly. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
