High-back Wheel Horse Seat goes for $381 on eBay

Recommended Posts

Did anyone else follow this eBay auction? I was curious to see where it would end.

$381.00 plus $22.00 shipping. WOW. B)

Now that the auction is over, I don't think I am in violation of the eBay posting rules.

That's NUTS!! Shoulda got a leather seat ror that much. I been watching eBay for entertainment. Used parts going for nearly the NEW price. I should take parts offa mine , sell on eBay, and replace with NEW stuff ! B)

one thing i hate about ebay, is that they strip a perfectly good horse apart and try to sell for outrageous profit. but to each his own

I guess if you are determined to restore your Wheel Horse to original condition, then buying NOS at any cost is your only option, since that seat is no longer available. I thought that $288 for the same seat a couple of weeks ago was nuts, but $381? I guess it's like the guys on the Barrett-Jackson car auctions that pay $100,000 for something that when new only cost $1000.00. It's not about the money.

That's easy to say when you got lot's of it.

I see your point, but it isn't the "E" doing the dismantling.

I've learned my lesson on there, pick your top price and don't let temptation push you higher on bidding!

Wise words Randy. Bidders Rush can be a crazy feeling... adrenaline and all.

Don't forget it's not the sellers or the marketplace who's to blame. It's the collectors with deep pockets and/or the guys who just 'wanted it a little more badly.' The hobby is getting bigger and bigger all the time, and with more people getting in the hobby, there are more people fighting for those less common and NOS parts. Some of whom have a lot more disposable income than others.

Let's also be careful about picking on the winning bidder... he (or even she) could be (and probably is) a member here! B)

And if he or she is a member here, that is no problem. I am available for adoption. All you have to do is feed me and give me money for Wheel Horse parts.

i see your point, but some of these people dont share our passion, or appreciate these machine's for what they are. ebay can be a useful source for all of us, but it's just a source of income for others. they dont care what they sell, just a long as some sucker (us) buys it. (hope i'm not opening up a can of worms) no disrespect to anyone on here.

This seller has sold lots of Wheel Horse parts. I don't think he/she was out to gouge anyone. There was a reserve on it. Watching the auction, I think the reserve was hit at $120.00. That is not unreasonable for an item such as this.

The winner of the auction decided that $381.00 was a reasonable price for him, and so it went. Unfortunately, the next guy that finds a NOS seat will expect to get that price too.

Nobody forces anybody to bid, ebay is a good source for parts and sometimes things sell very reasonable,I personally dont part restorable tractors, but sometimes sell extra parts I have to other folks who can use them, the buyer determines sell price and what money I get is usally spent on parts I need,a win-win deal,Rick B)

A BIG maybe here, the buyer put in wrong price?

I did that one time [and one time only] I meant $110.00 but put in $1100.00, I seen my mistake just when I hit "enter"! A cab for $1100? I did get it for $110.00 but could have been a lot worse. Crap happens. B)

As long as buyers happy, that is all that matters.

Randy

PS I had to drive 90 miles to go get that cab too!

I was following along as I was interested in the seat for myself. As long as seller and buyer are happy, thats all that matters. Trying too find an NOS seat that has never been farted on before by a stranger is pretty rare these days eh. B)

I'd like to see the tractor its going on, must be pretty special to its owner.

B) Like I said in one of my earlier posts, this site is definitely entertaining!

I don't like to buy fleabay stuff but I do when I have to. Parts availability in Ks. just ain't that great. Everyone has their limits.

I don't think that was the case. Even if it was, a secondary bidder had to bid enough that it would bump him up to that price. So there were at least two bidders willing to pay $375 or higher.

I'm not knocking the restorers on here, I think it's great keeping those wonderfull tractors in like new condition . I have a collection , none restored , I appreciate well built tractors and use them all the time . Gotta have my own personal totch tho. I just don't like the high back seats... and arm rests ? not on mine. And I throw out the adjuster tracks so the seat is lower and adjusted for only me ! Gotta have the old style seat mount that allows the seat to tilt forward and stay there so you can fill with gas! and those bouncy coil springs ? Gone! Oh I'm talkin' about my 520's got the other one fixed (hydro) B)

Putting in a high bid assures that you will win tho. If I realy want something I put in a high bid, more than I realy want to pay and hope someone doesn't bid it way up, and I have seen "em swoop in and outbid me and realy pay!

The first thing I thought of was the vinyl. It doesn't matter if it was NOS and wrapped in plastic, over time, the pasticizers in that vinyl will migrate out and cause it to become brittle. Happens to anything and everything made of vinyl. It's old! I would think what ever tractor that seat winds up on, it won't be sat on for fear of a tear. Wow. I have one seat with a Wheelhorse Logo on it. I think I'll put it in a safe and sell it just before I retire. If I make it that far physically.........and mentally! B)

Kuddos to the seller! That's what a capitalist nation does best! That was an economy stimulator!
