Shuboxlover 479 #1 Posted February 19, 2010 Model# 96-42ST01 There is no cracks in the belt but when I have the PTO engaged and drive forward into the snow, it seems like the auger and pulleys get stopped pretty easily. (YES I have the belt routed correctly) Could the belt be stretched out and not have enough tension on it? B)
rickv1957 73 #2 Posted February 19, 2010 Are all bearings good?,are you sure that belt is slipping and not pto,Rick
sorekiwi 761 #3 Posted February 19, 2010 As Rick said, try to determine whether the belt is slipping or the PTO. In the snow you may not hear the belt squealing like you would in the dry. If the belt is slipping, then I'd probably replace it, and have a look at the tensioner spring to see if it has stretched. If the belt itself has stretched, it will reduce th tension the spring has on it. .
Shuboxlover 479 #4 Posted February 19, 2010 Bearings are good. If the PTO is slipping.....does that mean the pulley would stop??? B)
chazm 413 #5 Posted February 19, 2010 Hey Shubox - my single stage blower does the same thing - I think mine is just deep heavy snow and overloading it. If I drive into it slow & stop for a moment it does OK My belt belt and parts look good, just the chain comes loose after using. Chaz B)
sorekiwi 761 #6 Posted February 19, 2010 If the PTO is slipping.....does that mean the pulley would stop??? Yep, the pulley on the blower, and the PTO pulley would stop. Actually when it does it, have a look at which pulleys are stopped. If the pulley on the blower is stopped, but the PTO pulley is spinning, then your drive belt is slipping. If the snow blower pulley is stopped, and the PTO pulley is stopped then the PTO is slipping.
Kelly 1,030 #7 Posted February 19, 2010 yup mine dose that, to aid in figuring out if it was the belt or PTO I put about 5 lines on the PTO bell with a paint stick so I could see if it was stopped hard to see sometimes, but if it has the lines drawn from the engine outward you can see it better if stopped, mine was harder with the cab on trying to see out the windows down to the PTO. Shuboxlover 479 #8 Posted February 19, 2010 mine was harder with the cab on trying to see out the windows down to the PTO. BOO HOO!!!!!! i WISH i had that freaking problem!!!! that's my jealousy talking O.K. I'll have to pay more attention next time Thanks guys
Shuboxlover 479 #9 Posted February 19, 2010 O.K. I just went out and "played"........I got into some deep snow and the PTO stopped So does this mean I need a new clutch disc? When I got this tractor, it didn't have a PTO on it, so I used the pulley/disc and brackets off a 312 I had, I haven't put the PTO brake on it yet, but everything else should work off the 312 shouldn't it? sorekiwi 761 #10 Posted February 19, 2010 The PTO brake wont have anything to do with your problem. I assume we are talking about a "C" series here? The adjustment procedure is in the manual. Basically you want about a 1/16" gap between the bell and the clutch disc when the PTO is disengaged. I'd start there, and tighten the adjustment another turn if it needs it. Quite often the linkages etc are a little worn, and the holes for the linkages are a little egged out, so you might need to run it a little tighter to keep it driving. The blower seems to put quite a load on the PTO. The setting on mine that worked fine with a deck, needed to be tighter to stop it slipping with the blower. Shuboxlover 479 #11 Posted February 20, 2010 Thanks Mike......I'll give that a shot!!!!
MaineDad 85 #12 Posted February 20, 2010 Mike, That would be my suggestion too. Tighten the PTO adjustment using the trunion so it's a little hard to engage. See if that helps.
