FreddieFarmall 1 #1 Posted March 3, 2008 Grettings All: I have enjoyed reading info posted by everyone and thought I would start a new topic. I am sort of interested in getting a 'Reo Skiff' rear engine rider to go along with my 'Horses. I wondered how many are out there, and if anyone has one they would part with that is not too far away, or bring to the show in June. Tell me about your experiences, what to look out for, etc. Thanks! Fred P Montgomery PA
nylyon-(Admin) 7,357 #2 Posted March 3, 2008 I've got nothing to add for this one but glad you're here. You'll have to tell us about the the horses you have.
combatmp29r 27 #3 Posted March 3, 2008 Freddie let me also say . I do have a 67 REO lawn skiff, but its not something I want to part with. The only bad spot on mine is where the battery sat under the rear shroud. It isn't restored yet, but I hope to get it done in time for the show in June. I haven't seen many of them, and actually stumbled across this one when picking up another vertical shaft. Heres a pic of it. Needs the normal hoses and belts, but other than a couple holes where the battery sat its very solid.
TT-(Moderator) 1,145 #4 Posted March 3, 2008 Fred ! Glad to see you finally got a chance (or courage? ) to converse with us! For those of you who don't know Fred, he is a a great fellow with whom I have had the pleasure of shaking hands and chatting about Wheel Horse tractors in person on several occasions. We'll put the feelers out for a 'Skiff for you, but I can't think of any floating around anywhere -- except the one Joel has. (IS it floating, Joel ? )
combatmp29r 27 #5 Posted March 3, 2008 No its safe in the bed of the dump truck. Now the B-81 and one of the Charger V8s could well be floating in the leanto. Couple inches of water in there last night. Haven't looked yet today

FreddieFarmall 1 #7 Posted March 3, 2008 Hi Terry: Thanks for the nice comments! You amaze me with your knowledge on these various issues from part numbers and applications to starter generator 'physics'! I thought a Lawn Skiff would go good with the Lawn Rangers since they share some parts like tires and steering wheel. I should be looking to unload some stuff, but we all know how that goes! I should get together with Joel anyway in case he parts out any of those fiberglass bodied Lawn Rangers that he picked up recently. PS: I didn't have as much fun clearing my snow the other day! Ha! combatmp29r 27 #8 Posted March 3, 2008 Freddie email me if you need anything specific off the fiberglass rangers. The one I tore apart here a few weeks back for the most part was good. My plan is to take the 3 and make one good one. Beyond that the parts are available, or even probably a whole tractor. I probably won't have the newest 2 home until april though. Once the baby comes I'll have a better timeline on the retrieval
TT-(Moderator) 1,145 #9 Posted March 3, 2008 And catch him quickly, Fred...... He's coming as far as my place one of these days in the semi-near future. Maybe he could tote some parts along on the trip. I'm sure I'll be seeing you at the end of May.
combatmp29r 27 #10 Posted March 3, 2008 Yep I can probably fit a couple pieces on the load. I'll just charge Terry alittle more for hauling

Buzz 502 #13 Posted March 4, 2008 Hi Fred, welcome to Red Square. Are you going to the Little Guys Show again? I have plans to go but you know how plans are. Eldon would probably go but it would probably cost him 3 or 4 dollars for gas ......... I'll post details on the show in the shows section.
FreddieFarmall 1 #14 Posted March 4, 2008 Hi Buzz: Glad to hear from you too. I don't know if I will get to the 'Little Guys' show or not. The time I was there (2 years ago now?) we had gone to an auction at an old Wheel Horse dealer in Jacobus, PA south of York that same day, so it was convenient to catch while in the general area. That is a pretty nice show, though. I will be glad to know when it is in case it is an available weekend. Fred
T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,531 #15 Posted March 4, 2008 Freddie, I just wanted to add my I don't know much about the Reo's but it looks like you know what you're looking for. Maybe we can distract Joel long enough so you can make away with his Reo. "Hey, Joel, look over there, isn't that a Wheel Horse and it's a vertical shaft!"
CasualObserver 3,410 #16 Posted March 4, 2008 Hi Freddie, and welcome! My suggestion would be to place free want ads for one in any of your local gas station free papers... and look in the same. Those old bathtub mowers are not something that most people are actively "trying" to sell, but would really like to get rid of! JMHO
combatmp29r 27 #17 Posted March 4, 2008 Man Terry now your gonna make me fit the REO in the shed with the rabid coon? Getting crowded in there he barely has room to move anymore
combatmp29r 27 #18 Posted March 4, 2008 You know the sad thing is guys, the guy I got my REO from said he saw 3 get scrapped at the local junk yard last summer

c-series don 9,219 #23 Posted October 3, 2016 I was lucky enough to score a N.O.S. Reo rr-46 from a Wheel Horse dealer that bought out another WH dealer. After talking to one of the salesman and telling him I collect Wheel Horses he said come out back I have something you might want. He got a forklift and brought down this Reo, then flipped it on its side and it looked BRANDNEW! He said its never been started that he knows of. He then told me how much they wanted for it and I almost couldn't get the money out of my pocket fast enough. I practically stole it ! This is a tiller steer rider with non-pneumatic(solid rubber) tires. I will try to post pics of it if I can figure out how to do it! I've only seen one other one since I got this one 10 years ago. I brought it to the big show a few times and everyone said they have never seen one like it. If anyone has any information on these i would love to hear from them. Thanks
