D160 pump shaft stripped

[73-18 automatic 8]

So the qusetion is which way is correct or does it matter I put the newer one on like the old came off but does it really matter as far as the parts diagram it shows it turned around copared to mine but that would put the engine closer to the pump just wondering if it would make a difference thanks

and to answer the question yes the shaft is harder the the coupler the coupler is cast iron and the shaft is hardened steel I was able to drill coupler but not the shaft
