markslawnmowerworld 4 #1 Posted February 5, 2010 I'am posting this information because yes it did happen......and it is very interesting to us as wheel horse fanatics...... When you went to a wheel horse dealership in 1988 and ordered a wheel horse garden tractor model 31ptx801 this is what you got. : 400 series frame : 8 speed 8 pinoin unidrive transaxle with 1-1/8" inch axles : hood with wheel horse decals : rear fender with wheel horse decal : hood stand : 15 inch "sure-grip" steering wheel : steering shaft and spindles : cast iron front axle : seat pan and springs all these were components to kit sold by wheel horse so you could build your own garden tractor puller for just under $800.00. you needed to supply your engine, drive pulleys, wheels and tires to start garden tractor pulling. Only 100 of these kits were sold by wheel horse. This kit was a creation of bob hurley,an avid garden tractor puller and wheel horse dealership owner in durham,nc. 2

TT-(Moderator) 1,131 #15 Posted February 6, 2010 I believe the H-D (Sportster) powered puller at the 2008 WHCC show might have been one of the kit tractors. Can anyone back me up on that? There was a ton of pics of it floating around..... but none were mine. B)

TT-(Moderator) 1,131 #20 Posted February 6, 2010 OK..... I "found" a picture: I can't help with any details, nor can I verify that this is indeed one of the "factory" puller kits.
clintonnut 126 #21 Posted February 6, 2010 That tractor was on ebay for I think $5000 and Pohlig said it was a factory puller. I remember watching the Pohlig tractor that Bill drove at the show. It almost got away from Bill when he hit the throttle hard and it went into a wheelie while moving. It has Chevy Valves, Alky carb, bada** sound and power, high compression, etc. I was amazed at the tractor when I saw it run.. Charlie
