Dw Andy 0 #1 Posted February 4, 2010 My project last winter was this 520H .Just a good goin' over, tighten up the steering gears, C style shifter, ect, Thought I had it all ready to go. I mowed for less than an hour and was mowing the road ditch (incline) and she stoped pulling. Had to push it back to the shed. Had the motor running and in gear , was easyer to push, but wouldn't pull itself. I had the hyd. line off the cyl. last winter ,Thought I was carefull not to get dirt in there but...... I'd appreciate any advise on trouble shooting this.
truckin88 104 #2 Posted February 4, 2010 check the drive belt and drive pulleys, make sure they are still functioning as they should. Check the hydro control linkage under the seat, make sure it is operating as it should. When you say it is easier to push it almost sounds like the tranny was disengaged. last but not least change the hydro filter and oil, maybe even flush the system

I was kinda thinkin' I should check the hydro pressure, but don't know where to hook it up or how much pressure I should have.

sorekiwi 761 #8 Posted February 5, 2010 Filter? If it became plugged , wouldn't the oil bypass? Or does the hydro filter not have a bypass built in? The reason for using a genuine Toro filter is to ensure that it does not have the bypass valve. There are engine oil filters that will physically fit, but they of course do have the bypass. Dirty oil kills a hydro really fast
refracman 167 #10 Posted February 5, 2010 Just did some work on a 520 over the weekend and the bolt holding the fan/ hydro pulley on was backed out a few threads. Might want to check to make sure the pulley/key in tight /intact still.

Might want to check to make sure the pulley/key in tight /intact still. My other 520 needed a fan blade so I robbed one offa the non working tractor. The pulley appears to be on all the way. I'm pretty sure it's the filter thats pluged. Soon as I can get a round tuit, need to get the tractor in where its warm so the oil don't hafta drip all week. Think I'll just put in an order for some filters, a fan blade is only $12 , that (special)washer goes for over $
