snowbelter 0 #1 Posted February 2, 2010 Hey guys ,cruising the hood today found buried in front of abandoned house. The stckers on side had (14)8speed ,engine:12h kohler comand that, has compresion, w/blk shrd,it has electric clutch, still in place, and mock headlights. After climbing snow bank to get a better look I found the (model# 1 0340 8).Their is a mower deck , too buried to figure out what it is,I think it is the 42"or48"side dscharge deck. The left rear wheel has been removed down to the axle, I'm wondering why,???But found it in the vacinity. All tires appear to be in good shape.Front hitch mid hitch and rear hith are in place and in good shape. I am going to wait till snow is gone (mid april or begining may)to make a better assesment . I would like to know what you guys think the year make is , its worth as a pile of scrap or collecters item ,is this the original motor and why is the lft. rear tire off. thanks for looking
rickv1957 72 #2 Posted February 2, 2010 The 14 8 speed is a 73 model,should have a 14hp kohler,sounds like a good find,Rick
Sparky-(Admin) 21,300 #3 Posted February 2, 2010 Like Rick said its a 1973 model. Should have a Kohler "K" series 14hp. The rear wheel and hub could be removed for many reasons but the most common reason is when the hub set screws come loose and mess up the axle and keyway. The older models like that only had one set screw on the hub and if the owner didnt keep an eye on it.....well you know. Value is a real tough question to answer and without pics even tougher. I dont think its a particularly valuable model as its really just a "C" series made one year before they called then the "C". Mike.......
