Dan,

The only thing I know for sure is that the tool box and fenders were an option. Not sure on the shields. I would say they were standard.

steve is right. they had to have the guards. they did not come from the factory with the fenders and tool box. it was added by the dealer. also a/g tires were standard.

The Belt Guard (p/n:3549) was standard on the RJ-58, the Heat Shield (p/n: 3588) was actually not included with the RJ-58/59 until near the very end of the RJ-58 production run (Jan through July 1959), but became a standard item on the 1960 400 and up Suburbans. Most owners and dealerships added them to the RJ's later. The toolbox/fenders (p/n: FA-58 @ $10.50) was an "optional" item for the RJ-58 and was installed by the dealership.

Considering the average income in 1958 was about $4600.00, $10.50 was a fair chunk of change ...

Mike is correct, I always thought the exhaust heat shield was standard but they did not come into play until late in production. I would have loved to hear the complaints at the time: "For The Love of God Man, my goods are roasted and my leg is on fire, is there anything you can do?" Reply: "Ya we can put the leg fire out but the goods are toast."

IMO the tool box and fenders looks best with a set of turf tires.

1) "Mike is correct" and 2) "IMO the tool box and fenders looks best with a set of turf tires."

1) I now know my RJ-58/59's ...

2) On that, we don't agree ...

So how common were those options then?

If one was to go looking for a restorable RJ58 today, what are the odds it would have fenders?

thanks,

Scot

Here's a pic of one of my factory wicked RJ58's with all the guards in place. This one has the tool box and fenders. This is one of my favorite tractors I have.:banghead: Keith

Keith, Very Nice looking tractor, straight A's all the way across the board. The foot rests are probably an add on to make it more comfortable for cruising. See Ya, Bye Burly
