stevebo-(Moderator) 8,330 #2 Posted January 27, 2010 Dan, The only thing I know for sure is that the tool box and fenders were an option. Not sure on the shields. I would say they were standard.
dandan111 31 #3 Posted January 27, 2010 That is what I was thinking but with these old tractors was not sure.
SALTYWRIGHT 859 #4 Posted January 27, 2010 steve is right. they had to have the guards. they did not come from the factory with the fenders and tool box. it was added by the dealer. also a/g tires were standard.
MikesRJ 552 #5 Posted January 28, 2010 On the rj58 were belt and exhaust gaurds standard? Was the tool box and fenders extra? thank you Danny The Belt Guard (p/n:3549) was standard on the RJ-58, the Heat Shield (p/n: 3588) was actually not included with the RJ-58/59 until near the very end of the RJ-58 production run (Jan through July 1959), but became a standard item on the 1960 400 and up Suburbans. Most owners and dealerships added them to the RJ's later. The toolbox/fenders (p/n: FA-58 @ $10.50) was an "optional" item for the RJ-58 and was installed by the dealership. MikesRJ 552 #8 Posted January 28, 2010 Them options were well affordable!Rick Considering the average income in 1958 was about $4600.00, $10.50 was a fair chunk of change ...
VinsRJ 721 #9 Posted January 28, 2010 Mike is correct, I always thought the exhaust heat shield was standard but they did not come into play until late in production. I would have loved to hear the complaints at the time: "For The Love of God Man, my goods are roasted and my leg is on fire, is there anything you can do?" Reply: "Ya we can put the leg fire out but the goods are toast." IMO the tool box and fenders looks best with a set of turf tires.
MikesRJ 552 #10 Posted January 28, 2010 1) "Mike is correct" and 2) "IMO the tool box and fenders looks best with a set of turf tires." 1) I now know my RJ-58/59's ... 2) On that, we don't agree ...
sscotsman 148 #11 Posted January 28, 2010 So how common were those options then? If one was to go looking for a restorable RJ58 today, what are the odds it would have fenders? thanks, Scot
Hammerhead 817 #12 Posted January 28, 2010 Here's a pic of one of my factory wicked RJ58's with all the guards in place. This one has the tool box and fenders. This is one of my favorite tractors I have. Keith
