416 8?

i am the proud owner of a gt1142 8 speed and have the chance thru some horse

trading (literally) to get a 416 8speed. can you guys tell me besides 5 horsepower

what more a 416 is compared to my 1142? any help is as always appreciated and i love this site!! :thumbs:

is the 416-8 an onan twin or a kohler single?? I just sold a 416-8 with the single kohler and it was the best worker I have ever owned. It has a ton of torque and the kohler ran like a champ. Both motors are great but I really love the big single kohlers.

To be honest I would trade for it, being yours is a briggs and his is either a Kohler or an Onan, I have a GT 1642, and I would swap! But to each thier own.

A GT1142 is (supposed to be) pewter.

I like TT's response best, but as far as differences go, I can only tell you what the 416 has because I know nothing of the work horse line. It would seem that the 416 is the favored choice of most of the collectors here, especially the ones with hte single cylinder Kohler. In later years, it was replaced with the 16hp twin Onan engine. Both motors are nice, the Onan has a powerful sound to it but the Kohlers are tried and true, easy to work on, reliable and you can get parts easy enough. The transmission also has the 1 and 1/8th axles with the 8 pinion rear end. This is the heavier rear used in the higher number garden tractors.

For an even trade, depending on the condition of the machine you are looking at, I'd go for it and not even thing twice about it.
