chazm 413 #1 Posted January 22, 2010 Hi Guys I've been doing some work on the 753 (blue horse) I've noticed that the rear wheels are held on with nuts & bolts I guessing that the hubs are striped out What is the correct size lug bolts - 7/16 x20 ?? And are all lug bolts the same size on all Horses ?? I not sure if I'm going to helicoil these hubs or change over to 5 lug hubs I guess the determining factor will be how easy these come off & or how bad I bugger them up to get off Thanks for your input, Chaz :wwp:
stevasaurus 22,862 #2 Posted January 22, 2010 Chaz...there was a post about the bolt through the hub thing last year...guys were switching to the bolt thing because it was easier to mount the tire, and a few other reasons. I am guessing your hubs are not stripped. Also, I bought new lug bolts for my 502 last year from the Toro dealer. Part # 83-2720 cost was $1.32 apiece. Yours should be the same part number. They did have to order them though...took 2 days.
TT-(Moderator) 1,145 #3 Posted January 22, 2010 Chaz.... If the bolt holes in the hubs are actually stripped, grab some GM 7/16 X 20 wheel studs at your local auto parts store. (tell them you have a 1969 Z-28 Camaro ) Drill the stripped holes out to the proper size (which I currently forget ) and carefully press or pull in the studs. (you don't want to break the hub by pounding them in place) Buy matching GM lug nuts for plain steel wheels and you're in business - and it won't be such a pain trying to hold the wheel until you get a bolt started. chazm 413 #4 Posted January 22, 2010 Thanks TT - I might still have some chevy lugnuts laying around from when I worked at a dealer years & years ago. Will give it a try does that mean I can get fancy chrome lugnuts for it too - way cool Chaz :banghead:

tgranthamfd 29 #6 Posted January 23, 2010 A guy on e-bay sells a wheel lug kit, too. My brother bought a kit for his, and they look good. Makes wheel changing a snap. They came with nice chrome lug nuts, too.

Horse Rancher 0 #8 Posted January 25, 2010 on our pulling tractors we use 7/16-20 bolts from the backside then put chrome lug nuts on avaliable from most auto parts stores studs sticking out makes it easier to put tires on rather than holding up a wheel and trying to start a bolt.
rickv1957 72 #9 Posted January 25, 2010 Thats a great idea!, Rick
TT-(Moderator) 1,145 #10 Posted January 25, 2010 That's what the eBay kit consists of. It won't do you any good if the threads in the hubs are stripped though.
