sgtsampay 117 #1 Posted January 22, 2010 Hi all. I would love to get bigger tires on my 211-5 tractor. The front look real small and the back also. Is there any way I can get bigger tires? Would this screw up my deck hight? Or can I just make a new notch for the deck lever and call it good? Also, what kind of tire won't chew up the turf but give my traction than turf tires. Thanks. P.S. Where can I get those cool crome hub caps BTW. thanks.

rickv1957 72 #3 Posted January 23, 2010 I like to use the AGs as they have more traction,Rick
bustedglass 1 #4 Posted January 23, 2010 Hey sgt, my little 211 shown in my avatar, and seen in the picture section, has ATV tires on it. They are 950-19 width as opposed to the 850-18 width turf tires that came from the factory. I have also seen a true "AG" style tread in a 10.00-20 size, but I cant remember where. Sorry. All of these tires will fit the factory rims, and should'nt affect your mowing deck, while giving that little guy the "big" tractor look . Hope this has helped. P.S. - I got my chrome hub caps on eBay. They are hard to find, because of the size, and are NOT cheap. But I think they are worth their cost , if you can find them. Maybe some of the other members can help you with these...

Dresden Guy 24 #6 Posted January 25, 2010 I have a 211-5 w/ deck and I just traded away my 211-4 w/ deck. I have talked to several guys who use chains year-round for mowing to get better traction, and you could even put small ags on the front to help traction and steering on slopes. There's a post of front ags posted 2 days ago by member "Forphase" who just got a C-160 and it has rear ags w/ chains and front ags.....it looks really nice woulod seem to be very functional. For grass mowing, I think the chains on rear turfs (the 211-5 takes 9.50) would work nicely.....keep them tight. I ran chains on my 211-4, for snow plowing and mowing. although it had 8.50 turfs on the rear. In my opinion, you get more benefits from chains on turfs because of the flatter tread surface, whereas the Ags kind of "swallow" the chain crosslinks in the lugs. I spent a lot of time getting the deck on my 211-4 cutting at the correct height and getting it leveled after I restored it. It took some time but it cut very well after that....then I traded it all (211-4, new blade, deck, bagger, and chains for a C-160). I am going to get rid of the 211-5 and deck as soon as I get some time to put the deck all back together.
sgtsampay 117 #7 Posted January 25, 2010 Thanks Dresden. Wouldn't the chains eat up the grass though? Also, I liek the idea of ags on the back and the front but I'm really thinking about something like busted glass got for the back and the front would be ag or larger turf. I really think getting a little bigger of tires would be great and give me a little better traction also. You said you knwo how to level a deck? Here is what I got so far, I go the deck to be level from front tot back but the deck still leans to one side when I raise the deck. The manual says to fix this issue by using the little bolts under the front axle and just having the front axle control the swing of the deck. Is this correct? Thanks.. BTW, I have a 36in rear discharging deck.
sgtsampay 117 #8 Posted January 25, 2010 Will this pose a problem with getting larger tires? There is about 2in of clearance from the tire to the deck and about 1 in of clearance from the tire to the back mower deck wheel. Any help guys? BTW, my tires sizes are: Front= 13x6.50/6 Back= 18x9.50/
sgtsampay 117 #9 Posted January 26, 2010 Any help? Thanks.. Hey, Blustedglass, what sized tire did you get for the rear?
Curmudgeon 28 #10 Posted January 26, 2010 1" wider would only move the tire 1/2" closer to the gauge wheel. I'd watch the deck closely under operation as they do move around some, but you should have plenty of clearance for that much. The rear tires have little to do with deck height. The rear of the deck is carried by the gauge wheels, the front is carried by the tractor, towards the front of the tractor. Tire width won't affect height at all. Assuming you could find a 1" taller tire, it would raise the rear of the tractor 1/2" and the front of the deck only a small portion of that. There is probably more than enough adjustment to allow for this.
