Thanks again for all the great ideas on removing Decal adhesive, I did check out a try every one of them (15 different test trials), and finally did get all the adhesive residue removed perfectly.

Although it is very expensive, I feel the '3M Woodgrain & Stripe Adhesive Remover'; is definitely the best way to go and worth the cost .........

TT has experienced this and was right on, thanks.

Didn't I tell you it was great stuff, Glen? :WRS:

Now if it was just a little easier on the wallet.

Summit Racing has it listed on their website at $18.95 for a 24oz. aerosol can.

The last time I bought any was long, long ago and I think it was around $10

Guess it's like 3M's weld-thru primer coat @ $28/can . Pretty near impossible to substitute and no easier on the wallet.

GlenJeri and all

Sorry I have not gotten on the forum as of late.

The maroon stripe tractors are very confusing to me when it comes to the

dash and console decals. Seems they are different from model to model

and year to year.

I hesitate to offer complete kits till I know for sure what year and model they are accurate for. Send me an email with pictures of the decals needed for your year and model so I can compare them to templates I have made. I will try to respond in a timely manner to verify all decals needed to complete your project and also to be able to help the next person who has that particular year and model.

thank You for your patience.

I actually wanted to strip the hood completely so I ended up using AIRCRAFT PAINT STRIPPER - and that barely touched it !

Chuck, one of the little tricks to getting the oaint striper to work fast and deeper, it to scratch the paint surface with say a 36 get sand paper first, then apply the stripper and then cover it with a thin plastic like a drop cloth. This works really well if you have more than one layer of paint to remove. The plastic will trap the vapors and make then to go deeper into the paint rather into the air. Just some FYI.

To remove the surface decals, I should have used the heat gun on the back-side of the metal which might have left more adhesive on the decal as it was peeled off; I applied the heat gun on the decal, which left all the residue on the metal, and none on the removed decal.

I think that's the key statement to the start of successfully removing any decals.

As I remember now, the 520 decals I hit with heat right to the top of the decals. The c160 hood that came off cleaner, the hood was off the tractor and I did heat it from the backside of the decal. Made a big difference in the amount of adhesive that removed with the decal.

Good advice,

plus I learned (big time) the air temperature in the garage makes a tremendous difference in how aggressive the stripper is.

Any temp below 60 degrees and the paint stripper seems to just sit there - plastic covering or not.

Try using WD-40 thats works good on emblems & decals and the glue under them. It's mild and wont hurt the paint. good luck
