joel_400 59 #1 Posted January 16, 2010 Got my newest tractor running last night. So far it seems great with exception of a few little problems. First being that when I closed the hood I realized that the carb sits dead center with the edge of the hood....did the d160 with a K341 have a special air cleaner assembly or possibly a manifold that lowers the carb position? I really don't want to cut the hood to clear if I don't have to, unless thats the way they were made? Next I realized how easily I could get stuck when I took it for a drive around the yard....maybe due to the big balloon turf tires on the rear? Is there a narrower wheel available for the rear of these or will I have to make some? Or just put ag tires and wheel weights? Also after running it a bit I decided to change the trans fluid to get rid of the old, but figured I'd try it out and warm it up first. Everything I have read says to use 10w30 motor oil. Is this correct? Joel
Don1977 604 #2 Posted January 16, 2010 The mounting of the air cleaner is off set from the center you may lower it a little over one inch by turning it over. Don't know if that will help.
rickv1957 72 #3 Posted January 16, 2010 The D160 with a kohler had a notch in hood to fit the standard k341 air cleaner, also there is a 27x9.50x15 tire /wheel that was an option for the Ds,Rick
catman81056 3 #4 Posted January 16, 2010 Here's a few pics of my 1974 D 160, this is the only year that the K341 was used for the D.
joel_400 59 #5 Posted January 17, 2010 Thanks for the quick replies! I really appreciate the pictures....it gives me an idea on what to do. I should be able to make a spacer like that and won't have to cut the hood much at all! Also I may have to see if I can find a set of the 15'' wheels, that would give me a few more options on what to do for tires, since then I could leave the 26x12x12s alone for general use like mowing grass and not rutting up the yard! Kelly 1,029 #6 Posted January 17, 2010 I know some D's have a large 6 bolt I think and others a standerd 5 bolt wheel, if yours is the 5 bolt you can find car rims that will bolt right on and many in 15" small ford, Chry., AMC, even 80's dodge trucks have the same bolt spacing. Or is it that some have 12" rims and others 15" rims? I hope I don't give out wrong info
rickv1957 72 #7 Posted January 17, 2010 Kelly, all Ds are 6 bolt,Rick

catman81056 3 #9 Posted January 17, 2010 Kellys right, I think you could put 5 lug 1 1/8" hubs on it. They'er pretty easy to find.

joel_400 59 #11 Posted January 17, 2010 Greg! I now know you're on here too! I think I can just take a hole saw and put a notch in the one i have and maybe make an adapter to move the air filter out on mine like the pics show. Shouldn't be too hard to fab something up like that. Unless you have one laying around..... Joel
