Is this a 604?

I always wondered if this was a 604. The belt guard says a 604 but it could be from another tractor(the only peice on it that is painted white). The serial num is A-59894. I don't think the engine is original either.

Yep... it's a 604.

Definitely not the correct engine - but a very good replacement!

The original engine would be a 6hp recoil start Tecumseh H60.

Mine originally had a Tecumseh 6 hp but I put a 7hp Kohler on it.

Brian, they are for turning purposes, try steering with strait tread and you just go strait :banghead: ag tires are good also for the front

Always liked the looks of the 604,654 & 704's with that raked hood stand.

Ken are those lights on your hood or missile launchers for the bigger snow drifts?

Brian the chains on the front tires help the front tires to get a bite when plowing.

Ever angle the balde while plowing only to have the tractor start slideing sideways ?

I have to agree the straight treads are hard to get to turn sometimes.

Yes the chains are for turning on ice and snow. It is kind of hard with out them.

Roller man: They are lights that I fabbed up with LED lights inside them.

I was cruising around my yard yesterday with the Work Horse 700 in about 3 inches of snow. Without the weight of a snow blade up front the factory straight tread tires were useless even if going very slow.

I will say that the older cast iron Tecumseh motors I don't mind so much. The newer Techy Snow King motors vibrate too much and I've found that no matter how clean the carb they just don't seem too run happy on any other throttle setting other than wide open.

Brings back memories. Grew up on a 604. Went thru 4 Tecky's in 13 yrs. mowing 2 acres, plowing gardens and snow. Wish I had it still.

Wow! I was lost when I got your PM. I really do miss that tractor. It plowed its little heart out. Have you ever mowed with it? It mowed the grass very well also. I'm very happy you like it.
