bell 11 #8 Posted January 12, 2010 looks (possibly) like a 603... Or, what's left of one. Is there a plate bolted to a square hole where the ignition switch is mounted?
evanloock 221 #9 Posted January 12, 2010 Doubt it's a 603. Don't see the square cutout in the hoodstand. If it is a 603 it also has the wrong footrests, front axle, steering wheel and someone has added a Dial-A-Height bracket in place of the old lift lock bracket. aaredneck 0 #10 Posted January 18, 2010 Does anybody have any info on a 603 im tryin to restore the hole thing to make it origonal and i figured it could be easyer if i had a parts manual? or just something that lists all the parts in a parts breakdown
Kelly 1,029 #11 Posted January 18, 2010 First are you sure it's a 603? the pictures are gone now, can you put up better pictures of the dash tower, right in front of the seat, the front axle from the front, then we can have a better idea what it is, if it's a 603 you have you work cut out finding all the missing parts, many are 603 only. Kelly 1,029 #12 Posted January 18, 2010 I have a copy of the IPL I can scan and send to you of the

TT-(Moderator) 1,131 #17 Posted January 19, 2010 That is NOT a 603. Why isn't it?
linen beige 14 #18 Posted January 19, 2010 That is NOT a 603. Why isn't it? It is possible that it started out life as one, but not very likely. As Eric said... Wrong steering wheel. The 603 used the half moon style. Wrong hood stand/console. The 603 had the engine controls mounted in the console and there is no hole for them in this one. Wrong foot rests. The 603 used ones similar to the '61 models. Wrong lift handle stop set up. Wrong front axle. I can't see the brake area well enough in these pics to tell if that area looks like it could be a 603. Are there some details that make you think it is a 603?

TT-(Moderator) 1,131 #20 Posted January 19, 2010 Are there some details that make you think it is a 603? I see a flat axle mounting plate on the front of the frame, the '61/'61 front axle, and the strap steel tie rod with the single drag link in the pictures I'm looking at on my computer. All the rest of that stuff like hoodstand holes, steering wheel, and footrests could have been modified or changed in the last 45+ years. Perhaps the owner can get some better pictures. :banghead:
aaredneck 0 #21 Posted January 20, 2010 that is the way i got it from my buddy and didnt think much of what kind of tractor it was untill my other frend came to look at it and said its a wheel horse and i looked into all the information im trying to make it back to the way it should be there is a spot for the controls theres just a plate bolted over it
bell 11 #22 Posted January 20, 2010 I'm sticking with 603... (heavily modified over the years, but nevertheless...) Would like to see some better pics tho.
CasualObserver 3,408 #23 Posted January 20, 2010 Seems to me that it will be pretty easy to put the "is it a 603" question to rest if you can find one piece of information. Is the hood stand welded to the frame? (I can't tell definitively from the blur of the picture) The 603 is the ONLY tractor that used the 2878 Frame that had the hood stand welded in place as one unit. All the others had separate part numbers for the hood stand and frame and the two parts were bolted together. Here's what it will look like. no bolts inside either. aaredneck 0 #24 Posted January 20, 2010 yes ill get some betta pics but my wheelhorse is stuck behind my johndeer 4020 so im not sure when ill have time to pull it out but yes the hoos stand is welded to the frame
