Wheelbearing 49 #1 Posted January 4, 2010 First restore on a wheel horse I'm pretty new here. Here are some pictures. This is what I started with Puller I bought from Harbor freight. I had to drill a 1/2" hole through the top of the wheel for the puller thread to hit the steering shaft. Will post more.

Wheelbearing 49 #8 Posted January 4, 2010 I'm making some weld in parts today to fix this seat mounting problem I found when I bought it. The seat would rock back and forth because it was only attatched to the gas tank brackets. I'll have more pics tomorrow when I fix it tonight.

Sparky-(Admin) 21,296 #10 Posted January 4, 2010 Looks like your off to a great start! Are you using a paint gun or rattle cans? Mike......
Wheelbearing 49 #11 Posted January 5, 2010 Looks like your off to a great start! Are you using a paint gun or rattle cans? Mike...... So far rattle cans. I'm using Rustoleum international harvester red specialty paint. I will use a quart to do the tins. I have a case of valspar on the way. I found the rustoleum in the hardware store and gave it a shot its a little darker than valspar but I like the color. I'm just not to crazy about the valspar brand. In all honesty I'd rather buy PPG. But for this one I'll give the rustoleum a try.
Operator 7 #12 Posted January 5, 2010 Great job so far!! The poor tractor looks like it never got a bath! Your doing it right. New decals too? Right? From Terry [Vinyl Guy] Randy
Wheelbearing 49 #13 Posted January 5, 2010 Great job so far!! The poor tractor looks like it never got a bath! Your doing it right. New decals too? Right? From Terry [Vinyl Guy] Randy Definately new stickers, I was already eyeing them up. I had some problems getting the lift lever off of the center staft. so I had to slit the sleeve and bang it off. This was after I seperated the Hood stand into two pieces by drilling out two of the spot welds. After blasting I rewelded the two together and welded the broken back seat mount pieces back in and filled all the cracks. I laser cut some 3/16 backers to stiffen up the now weekened mounts. I welded on a nut to this one, its a pain to get at when assembled. Ready for paint.

Horse Fanatic 49 #15 Posted January 5, 2010 Those seat mounts always break, that's an excellent repair and improvement on the original design!

Wheelbearing 49 #17 Posted January 7, 2010 I've been blasting and painting all week long. Assembly day should be friday night. Waiting on a new machined front axle shaft...the old one was worn bad. Once I have that I'll be assembling.

Wheelbearing 49 #22 Posted January 8, 2010 Well progressing further with blasting parts and cleaning them. My hold up on assembly is the front axle shaft. I gave some material to a friend at work to turn but he wasn't in today, Hopefully tomorrow I get the shaft and weld it to the new flat piece I cut. Parts I've blasted and painted. If the glove don't fit you must aquit! Assembly still looks like this till I get that axle shaft done and installed. I found the plastic bushing to replace the broken 1/2 ones on Mcmcaster A bunch of hardware arrived but some of it is not Zinc yellow chromated. It found its way to me very "cheaply" I called around in Ct looking for platers. And found one he said $65 minimum order.....very friendly especially after I told him where I work. Turns our my work gives him ALOT of business. So then I started looking all over at my parts and said well why paint this stuff when I could Zinc yellow chromate the stuff that gets ware on it anyways. So I have a bunch of screws and a bunch of clips shafts and other things that are going next week to the platers. Why not do all this stuff as well...Except the transmittion rod ends. whfan74 2,066 #23 Posted January 8, 2010 I agree with the other guys...........are you sure this is your first one? Fantastic job and you are definitely doing things the right way and paying attention to detail. Can't wait to see how it wraps up!
Wheelbearing 49 #24 Posted January 8, 2010 I have a question. the black on the hood and the hood stand was that originally Gloss black or flat flat black?????? Heres the spray bom I've been using for the red. It takes all night to dry but its really hard paint. They make a quart container of same stuff I will do the tins with. Ya still my first redo but I'm have a BLAST. Girlfriend is pissed about me tracking black sand blasting sand in house. She can lick my horses B@lls.
captjake 1 #25 Posted January 8, 2010 Girlfriend for now, once wife no more sand. hehe
