Polaris2007 4 #1 Posted December 30, 2009 Thank you to RickV for selling me a new clutch spring for my '77 C-120 8-speed. My issue is that I think it is too short. The photo below shows the spring I bought at the hardware store(left), the original spring(center)just the hook is broken off the original, so you can still see how long it was, and the new one I got from Rick(right). I do not think it would be possible to stretch Rick's spring enough to connect both ends without breaking it. Even with the clutch in the up possition(spring not stretched) the distance between connection points is like 3 times as long as Rick's spring. And the fact that the original spring was quite a bit longer tells me that Rick's spring might not be the correct one. Can anyone comment on this? Thanks again everyone....you guys are the greatest ---Jon H. Attached Image (Click thumbnail to expand)

TT-(Moderator) 1,145 #3 Posted December 30, 2009 The original #1014 spring is NLA but #108035 is a perfect substitute. It's still available from Toro for under $7. @Rick: a 1977 C-120 would be a 71-12K801
rmaynard 15,588 #4 Posted December 30, 2009 The original #1014 spring is NLA but #108035 is a perfect substitute. Thanks for that info TT. I too need one for my B-100. Do you by chance have the length of the 108035 from hook to hook, the coil length, and the diameter? Bob
TT-(Moderator) 1,145 #5 Posted December 30, 2009 #108035 spring: 7 3/4" overall length 6" coil length 5/8" coil diameter - outside. .110 / .112" wire diameter (all measurements are "real close to" and not guaranteed to be exact )
rickv1957 72 #6 Posted December 31, 2009 Here is a picture of the 108035,1014,and raider 12 spring, lots of difference between the 108035 and the ,1014,the original and the 1014 appear to match well, the 108035 is a heavier built longer spring, any thoughts on them TT,Rick
TT-(Moderator) 1,145 #7 Posted December 31, 2009 108035 started being used on the C-85/105/125/145/165/175 models and hooked from the clutch rod arm to the web on the top of the left rear axle tube - just like many other models. It can be retrofitted to most any gear drive tractor as long as the web on the axle housing and the clutch arm have the holes to attach it. The other springs are NLA (unless NOS pieces turn up) so I've been using the 108035 as a replacement.

peter lena 8,719 #11 Posted August 18, 2022 @Polaris2007 missing part , no mention of lubrication on related moving parts , typically I regularly see rusty difficult linkage areas, almost to a brag point of , yeah it barely works , really ? penetrating aerosol lubricant or a red spray grease into the moving areas , will make the rust run out and help function . only a related suggestion , pete
Willie 14 #12 Posted August 18, 2022 Thanks Pete, at this point every little bit helps.
Lee1977 6,774 #13 Posted August 20, 2022 The 108035 spring measuers 7 5/8" closed, they are stiff. You need a strong wire with a hook and handle to pull it in place, they are not easy to put on. I haven't seen a 1014 spring but replacements are avable from Wheelhorseparte & More listed down in the vendors section.
peter lena 8,719 #14 Posted August 20, 2022 @Lee1977 have any welding tig wire ? always grabbed unused pieces on the way to the metal dumpster , 1/8" size is a perfect stand off for a spring and easy to bend into a tight Z shape , also have very thin wire for small springs , on throttle cables and choke related levers . have also used small shackles for a pull point , pete
