Save Old Iron

the process is called "electrolysis" and it is used to electrically remove rust from the parts dipped into the salt solution bath.

search for "electrolysis" and "rust removal" on Google. there are plenty of sites explaining the process in more detail.

its a simple process and very effective at removing rust even in pitted areas of the metal which avoid sanding or scraping.

only good for iron / steel - it will pit aluminum - any stainless steel in the tank will turn the water into a toxic chromium solution. there are some cautions like the production of hydrogen, which can be explosive if concentrated enough in the area the parts tank is located.

plenty of reading out there on the internet tho.

enjoy the read, works really well when done correctly. :notworthy: If this is not enough for ya, you can look at a lot of the restoration threads to find more pics and information / ideas. I.E. types, sizes, and designs.
