953 Restoration

Recommended Posts

I thought I would post some pics of my 953 cleanup. I got this tractor for free from my step Dad. I had beed sitting in the woods in Northern Michigan since 95' Funny thing is I was the one who helped him put it there :notworthy: It had a transmission problem according to him, stuck in two gears. When I went up for deer season I towed a trailer to bring her home to South Carolina. I did not do a good job taking befroe pics, but you can kinda see it.

Someone had painted this tractor before. That is the gas tank converted from an air tank from what I can tell. Original is missing :notworthy:

The plan for this machine is to make it a worker again. Main job will be food plots. I hauled this baby 800 miles from West Branch,Mi to Clover,SC.

I was going to say what a rare find having both headlight lens still in it, you might want to put repo's in if it's going to be a worker and hang on to the orig. lens they are tough to find, Glenn here on the site make repo. ones, did you get the trans issue fixed? they are known to have trans problems.

The pin setup on the shifter was the problem. Bad design in my opinion. Had to drill out the casing and retap it. Made a new set screw and pin. Works good now. Nothing worse than watching paint dry, :notworthy:

:notworthy: Okay I am looking for some help and support her. As I said in an earlier post all I have is an 8x16 room to do this work in. My 21 year old son and his 20 year buddy and i have nicknamed this room the manroom. Deer antlers hangind on the wall, tools estored in every nook and cranny, you know guys stuff. So anyway I am out there tonight all excited about getting the chance to work on the horse, assembling some freshly painted parts, cold beer in hand, what else could a guy want, right! My lovely wife of 21 years comes out to tell me she is going to the Y to workout. Ok cool, she looks in the manroom and sees that everything has a light coat of REDoverspray) on it and begins to give me a little bit of should I say crap. I listen and calmly say, I can take you inside and show you some 2300 people(RedSquare Members) that don't mind that everything is red. Was iright or was I right?

Simple. When you know she will be there just enter the kitchen with some newspaper, an old part or two, and a rattle can. Calmly begin spreading the newspapers out on the table, whistling as you do so. Then place one of the parts on the newspaper and begin slowly shaking the rattle can as you thoughtfully eyeball the part. Stop a time or two to slightly move the part as if looking for just the right angle. :notworthy:

Step back, give the rattle can a really healthy shake and begin to spray paint onto your part. :WRS:

Your dust worries will be over as she will knock all the dust right off of you when she realizes what you are doing.

Got a little more done today. A sneak peak at the engine. Waiting on a head gasket, supposed to be here Thursday morning. Mamma said the new coil, carb, and voltage regulater is going to have to wait until after the new year. Dang budget :notworthy:
