Incredible Free Wheel Horse!!

Here's a great Wheel Horse that was Free! This was owned by an old timer who bought it new and kept it indoors it's whole life! :notworthy: He was getting up there in years so he decided to sell it to his neighbor. That guy was in his 60's when he got it from the old man. He restored the tractor from the ground up. He was a professor type of guy who is very meticulous and did a fine job on this tractor. This must have been in mint condition when the 2nd owner restored it. It has the cleanest tool box that I have ever seen, not one rust pit in it nowhere! :banghead: The rest of the tractor is the same way. I wish he would have kept it original just to see how mint it was! Oops! The guy restored it and then parked it in his shed and never drove it again for 5 years. Then he got tired of tripping over it in his shed so he sprayed the whole tractor with heavy oil and parked it outside! He saw my Wheel Horses at a tractor show and asked me if I wanted to buy it. I hadn't seen it but I said I was interested in it. He called me a few weeks later and said to come down and look at it. I drove 30 miles in a rain storm to look at it. I asked him how much he wanted for it and he said I could just have it if I would haul it away!!! :) I thought I was on a TV show or something where they mess with you pretty bad! I said I'd take it and loaded it up real fast before he changed his mind! I took off pretty quick too, I didn't get any more info on it, I just took off! :WRS: It didn't run at first but I rebuilt the carb and it fired on the first pull! I just laugh every time I look at this one! :banghead:

Thanks alot guys! I do have a knack for finding these little buggers!

This is a pic of the tool box on the 400. It is in mint condition! Not a rust pit on it. There is some water spots on it in this pic, but it was raining when I took the pics. I have about 60 Wheel Horses rounded up currently. :notworthy: Most are in good shape and a few of them are just waiting their turn to get attention. I have about 6 or more parts tractors laying around too. I also have other brands as well, 5 or 6 old Cub Cadets, 2 Copar Panzers, a Bantam, 5 or so Springfield's and a few old Bolens tractors. It is a great hobby to be involved with and the people are really nice. I noticed alot of collectors are in their mid 40's and early 50's. I know we all had to cut grass and plow snow when we were kids. I was always happy to help out my Dad and I am glad he let me do it! We had a big 953 with a ton of attachments and then we traded that in on a big D200 with the rear mounted finish mower and snow blade. That was a big unit! I have my 2 Grandson's help me do alot with these tractors. I always teach them to be safe though, this is not a game. I have wrecked quite a few of these tractors one way or another! KJ

Keith,

Great looking tractor! I really like the way the suburbans look like the large farm tractors, only much much smaller. I think my grandson will too.

Last year I purchased a 400 that I have been working on to give to my, soon to be five years old, grandson. A heat shield came with it, but I need to get a belt guard to make it as safe as possible before I give it to him.

While admiring your "free" tractor I couldn't help but notice what appears to be an additional rectangle guard of some kind. :WRS: Is it factory, or do you think someone has fabricated it, and would it be something you would recommend?

:banghead:

Dave, if you're referring to the guard under the heat shield, that is the factory belt guard for the 1960 version of the RMR-32 mower deck. (I say 1960 version because there were at least four versions of the RMR-32 between 55-60 all with their own different printed parts lists.)
