Found these pics in my files while looking for something else.... thought you guys might like to see this NOS Raider before it was Rick's!

Here's the tractor still in the crate as found at the original owner's auction in Indiana.

They came from the factory with ags on?

Man I gotta clean up the drool here. For anyone doing a restoration that they want too look as close to original as possible this is valuable documentation. I bet the seat hasn't even been farted on. :notworthy:

I picked that raider up in Indiana on news years eve 3 years ago and hit a snowstorm on the way home! made it back at 1130pm though,Rick

It looks like some corrosion and pitting there. Is part of the decal missing on the engine cover? But no matter those minor things, it's still a sweet piece of history. :notworthy:

Bo,I thought about doing some tough up as tractor has a little pitting and inperfections but then it would not be original,might replace motor decal,it is 41 years young,Rick

Your 100% correct Rick. I personally wouldn't touch a thing on it. Its only original once and it is 41 yrs old.

That tractor came up for sale a couple years ago in Hamlet Indiana (near South Bend) at a closed mower shop. The crate had been stood on end at some point and the tractor rested on its nose for who knows how long. It looked to me like water or "something" might have pooled in the hood/grille area around the headlamp assembly and popped the paint.

This auction has been talked about here on RS somewhere before. It was from the Jones mower shop and the contents were sold in two separate sales. Rick wasn't at the sales, but bought it soon after from the gent who had the top bid. I'm not sure where the mower decks went, but each of the NOS tractor sold also had an accompanying mower deck still in the box (sold separately).

The wheels and tires almost didn't go with the tractor. The auctioneer thought they were from something else and they had to be tossed back in the crate afterwards. if I recall corectly, the front tires were strapped to the tractor inside the crate on top of the seat with the steering wheel. The rear tires were packaged separately in another box. So I guess dealers could order rear tires of either style and mix and match them when assembling the unit for a customer.

A few other NOS tractors came from the same source but were spread b/t two auctions. Mark (I think that's his name) from OH who also takes a 420LSE and 520-8 to the PA show each year bought and displays a Charger 10. What is interesting to see on these NOS units is that they aren't nearly as perfect as most guys restore them to be. In fact, under the seat on Mark's he proudly shows off a pretty significant paint run. But they sure are sweet to have in original condition!

These are great for historical purposes and I'm glad guys like Rick have them in their collections. They take care of them and maintain them in their original condition probably better than most of us could. I know it is an effort for me to keep my nice stuff from deteriorating and I'd be nervous about having too many nice things in the barn.

These pictures need to be added to the Picture Gallery, as well as all the other NOS tractors out there. Most of the pictures in the gallery have incorrect parts or something on them - it would be nice to have some original tractors in the gallery. :notworthy:

HI.........ALL WHEEL HORSES CAME WITH A/G TIRES IN THE BACK IN THE 50S

AND EARLY 60S. I USED TO SELL THEM BACK THEN. SOME BUYERS PUT TIRES FROM CROSLEY CARS ON THEM. THE A/G TIRES DUG UP NICE LAWNS.
