Wheel Horse 518H Engine Troubles!

Recommended Posts

:notworthy: I have a wheel horse 518h that my dad just gave me. Starts fine from a cold start and runs great, but after its ran for say 5 or 10 minutes and you shut it off it won't start for about 30 minutes or so. You can crank till the battery is dead. Its suppose to have a new coil, and it looks like it, I drained the fuel and put fresh high octane in it and I changed the fuel filter. What else can I do? Thanks ahead a time!!!

The choke is engaged to start than disengaged when engine has warmed up. Then it doesn't matter where its at once its warm and you try to restart.

How hot of a spark should I have. The plugs are barely gapped. Lit spark. When I gap the to say .030 - no spark is visible. And it seems to have a hotter spark on the back plug than the front. What should the coil test at? (ohms)

First thing I would check when cranking it is if you have spark, and go from there, if you do a shot of carb cleaner in the carb to see if it will fire that way, NOT starting fluid that is not good on these engines with alum rods.

Sounds like the coil may be breaking down when it gets hot preventing it from starting, and only allowing it to start when its cold.

It sounds like it could be the "trigger" module. :notworthy:

They have a reputation for working when cold and not when hot.
