310-8 Freshen Up - Pics

Recommended Posts

stevebo

Guys,

Here is my new 310-8 I bought on Friday and here is what it looks like today (Sunday). Sorry no pics of the before but it was fairly clean. All sheet metal is going to be sandblasted but it is nice and straight with only some surface rust spots so minimal bodywork is required :notworthy:

The po bought this machine for the mower deck for his B81. It is a great running machine with only 327 hours !!! I am not sure if I should sell it or keep it... Anyway here are the pics I have. I will be upgrading the wheels and tires all around to the 400 series. It really makes such a difference.

Very nice, my 310-8 needs some freshening like that!

I am more into the mechanical side of restoration, don't have the aptitude for

painting. BTW, you have ordered the gearshift dust seal, I'm sure.....

Nice lookin' tractor, Steve. Looks like a keeper. Like Marshall said it's like changin' an axle seal, sometimes it's easy, sometimes it's not. Good luck with it. :notworthy:

Thanks guys. The sheetmetal is being blasted in the morning and I will be priming them at the shop prior to bringing them home. Ordered the decals from Terry and the rims and tires are "in the mail". I hope to have this thing painted and back together by the weekend however you never know....

ps- I did not like the color of the engine so I repainted it to match the dash tower. Looks much better. :notworthy:

Here are a few more pics of the progress. All the tins have been blasted and the backsides are in primer and color. I plan on wet sanding the outside surfaces prior final paint. The sandbalsting leaves it a bit too rough for paint as is. I should be able to have this one done by the weekend if all goes well. Sund will be a big work day as Saturday I am on family duty to get out Christmas tree..

Got a little more done over the past few days. I painted the rims then painted the tires with the tire paint from Miller's (which I love the stuff). No need to tape off the tires or dismount (glad I did not have too because they are filled with liquid). The Miller's tire paint covers any overspray. Last few items (other than routine pil change, filter and fuel line) is to put the decals on once Terry sends them and paint up the 37 inch mower deck with a rattle can then wet sand and buff a little. I decided to keep the smaller tires on this one so there will be no problem with the bigger tires rubbing the 37 inch deck. I believe this one is going up for sale as I have a guy that is very interested in it for good money.

PS-

Anyone have a diagram on the transaxle?? It will help me figure out how to take the seal out. Here is a picture of the shaft that is leaking with the brake pulley off.

You should be able to stick a pick in there and pry it right out. Make sure you look at which side faces in when you take the old one out. The new one will slide right back in. Just be sure to put the new one facing the same direction as the old one, and tap it in evenly or you will mess up the new seal. I just replaced both sides on my 84 C165. :notworthy:
