Decals Applied over New Paint

Recommended Posts

Polaris2007

Hi guys.

I got a new set of decals for my C-120 that is currently undergoing a full restoration. My question is... how long after I paint the hood with Valspar Restoration IH red from a rattle can, should I wait to apply the decals that go on the sides of the hood? :notworthy:

It is best to wait until you can't stick your fingernail into the paint.

I have done it earlier though and it didn't make a difference.

Save Old Iron

The biggest concern here is to make sure all the solvents have gassed out from the paint. Placing a decal over paint too quickly will trap the remaining solvents under the decal - possibly inactivating the adhesive on the decal.

My opinion - whats the rush ?? If you can wait a week or two - then wait and be sure. :notworthy:

The back of the can tells you how long you need to wait before applying wax

to new paint I would wait at least that long before applying decals
