Rollerman 290 #1 Posted October 11, 2009 Picked up a decent little walk behind tractor last week. It's a faded red in color with a green cultivater attachment. It also came with a sulky that can be used with wheels or a steel drum roller. The engine slides forward when you pull the handle below the handle bars up putting tension on the belt. The engine is an old B&S with a simple v groove pulley...the belt loops around the flat pulley for drive...the wheels free wheel with a ratcheting dogleg on the axle that catches a notch in the hub. Pretty simple, but what is it. I don't think it's one of the main stream walkers like the DB's, Garden Master, Pond, Speedex, etc, etc.
bell 11 #2 Posted October 11, 2009 Wow Stephen, I've never seen one quite like that! I'll ask dad, he's a collector of the 2 wheelers... From what dad told me, there were a BUNCH of manufacturers of 2 wheelers over the years.
Don1977 604 #3 Posted October 11, 2009 Never seen one like it but it has an old 1 1/2 HP Briggs built in the 40's. with what looks like a chain drive reduction.

Don so you say it's 1 1/2HP?...& the engine is as old as the 40ies? A friend looked at it & told me it may be a Briggs model S? The tag at the back of the engine is barely readable....I'll have to get the numbers & post them here later. Does it run? It has spark & does roll over. But I'm going to degrease it & clean all the old gas out of the carb & tank before I try.

Don1977 604 #8 Posted October 12, 2009 I can't see it well enough to say for sure. If it's a model "S" it will have a suction carb. With the oil bath breather low it looks like a Model "N" built in the 40's to 54. The model "S" was built from 30 to 33. They also built Models "5S" and "6S" from the late 40's to the 50's. My dad had a couple of lawn mowers back in the 40's that we used into the 50's and I believe they were Model "N".
Rollerman 290 #9 Posted October 16, 2009 Did some degreasing & cleaning on the walker today...the engine tag does say Model N. Looking at other walkers on other sites I'm starting to lean towards a Speedex walker?
CasualObserver 3,408 #10 Posted October 16, 2009 Stephen, I'm pretty sure I've got an owners manual for a Model N engine if you're interested in it... I'm not going to do anything with it.
