Treating my little red tractor

Recommended Posts

HunterdonNJ

I bought my tractor 10 years ago and to be honest I proceeded to beat the daylights out of it. Paid around $500 for her and have done nothing except replace the mower deck. Well now that it's celebrating it's 30th birthday ( 1979 c121 ) I decided to tear it down sand, clean and repaint it her. But keep in mind I'm going to start abusing her again in the spring. Tilling, stump removal, tree dragging, cart hauling and mowing 2 acres is just some of her jobs. I want to put hydro lift on her while she's naked and exposed. Will the older c120's lift work means as the valve is outside the panels and the c121's looks to be on the inside of the panels. What do I need for the pump? I know I need the valve, lines, cylinder and lift bar assembly.

You guys have some great toys and I'm envious of you all!

Jonas

Hello and :scratchead: Im not sure what you need to do to hook up Hydro lift to your tractor. I think I would do some researce and see if your pump is the same as one that did have the lift. Look and see if there is extra ports for the lift on yours.

Good luck with it.

Pump is the same as those that had come with hydro lift. Only differences are that it is plugged where the lines should be. Now to find what I need to get get to do it. :ychain:

Thanks for the welcomes! :hide:

I spend alot of time just viewing the efforts and accomplishment of those that have done great things to their little red tractors :scratchead:

Well the tractor is being treated while still working. I removed the hood and stripped it down and pained it along with the seat pan. They are large pieces and wanted to get them done before bad weather. I'm needing to put the seat pan back on to mow at least one more time. I changed my deck back to my old rear discharge one and hoping to get the side deck stripped and painted this week as well. It is numbered 1542sc01 then below that 12544 but I can't find out what it is. Am I missing a number somewhere? Need a new idler pulley and belt.

Thanks,

Jonas

Well now that I have to mow lawn if the sun ever shines I had to put some parts back on the tractor. What a difference they make. I'll take them off and take it down to the frame after the holidays but I'll keep picking parts and redo them mean while.

Things I learned so far.

When using orbital sander everything within 30 feet will be Wheel Horse red.

The sander gains weight the longer you use it.

I can't speak for the 79 C-121, but my old 77 C-120 had the hydraulic lift added to it. The Wheel Horse part number for the kit was 8-4113 (enter in MPV as 84113). Obviously, you'll need to get the hydraulics and decide on the valve and placement. Hope this helps?

Not that it seems many people rebuilt their decks but I got mine done. New belts, rollers, tires and bolts. Alot of sanding and cussing involved. So maybe I'll get another 20 years out of this 1989 deck :scratchead:
