tranders 0 #1 Posted October 1, 2009 Can someone give me some symptoms of a worn throttle plate? My K181 doesn't want to hold a steady RPM,not surging, just gradually climbs in RPMs. Also places to find throttle plate bushing kit. Thanks for the help. chazm 413 #2 Posted October 2, 2009 Hey Rob - I'm having some what the same problem with a Briggs carb. Found that the arm on the throttle shaft was worn out & letting the eng run at high RPMs Getting parts from Pats Small Eng. - they had best prices You will need engine & carb numbers for parts look up hope this helps some chaz :hide:
Save Old Iron 1,566 #3 Posted October 2, 2009 Rob, a unintended pathway for air into the carb develops when the throttle shaft or shaft bushing area wears out. The throttle plates are no longer the ONLY source of airflow into the carb and the engine usually speeds up or even surges - more airflow = more air fuel mixture thru the carb into the engine which means higher speed - classic stuff good luck :scratchead:
