tarcoleo 119 #1 Posted September 29, 2009 Have installed a 13 hp Chinese-assembled Honda in my C-81. Started it up and found the engine to be unacceptably noisy compared with my C-111 with 11 hp Honda. The noise problem is probably not unique to this engine, so I'm wondering if any folks out there have quieted engines with after market or custom exhaust systems. Somewhere I read that a cheap automobile muffler can greatly quiet a typical tractor engine. Experience? Tom in RI
Electro12WH 50 #2 Posted September 29, 2009 What size is the exhaust pipe?
tarcoleo 119 #3 Posted September 29, 2009 Hi Electro- Coming out of the engine is a cast iron manifold with a three bolt flange that connects to the Honda muffler. Thus any muffler addition would start with a mating three bolt flange going to ???. Don't know if the flange pattern is a standard one, certainly one could be made and welded to--whatever. Otherwise, directly at the engine is a two bold flange connection. The ID of the exhaust system generally is about 1 inch. Tom in RI
