Aerator… de Weed question

Evening, 

Can an aerator be used to knock down tall weeds to make easier to pull.. weedwack or remove? 
Is there an impliment I could tow behind my Wheelhorse that could assist in weed removal.. cannot mow over there due to tree roots and 3 inch bamboo shoots.

All the ones I’ve seen are $600 for heavily used and up for brush hogs. 
This aerator is $20.00 or best offer.. so thought if it would work for my needs then that’s be great.

What have you used the aerator for or rather seen them used for Ed? All I know is what I’ve read and traditionally used for aerating soil so oxygen can better reach the roots to grow plants better

Add 3 cinder blocks on top for weight to keep in from skipping over the growth.....

I don't have an aerator.  I have a spring type dethatcher  that does a good job of removing the dead grass and scratching the soil in the bare areas. I do have it weighted as Bill suggests.

 

Dragging a spring harrow or a cultivator may work better than a rolling aerator for removing weeds and bamboo stumps.

Seconded. 

 

IMHO the act of rolling over vs scraping scratching digging is worlds apart. 

 

If you're not concerned about the shorter growth in the area (like the grass) then something like a section of heavily weighted chain link fence or a dragged pallet may be a consideration.
