Ran across a couple videos while looking for a paint shaker and saw this contraption for spray cans. I already had a piece of 3" PVC the right length. Just bought the 3" plug - stupid thing works like magic!!!

When you stop the drill, you can hear the shaker ball whizzing around inside the can. Can of Rust-Oleum, prolly setting a couple years, sprayed like a dream.

So, the one Adam likes has the shaft slightly off-center to facilitate shaking & mixing through wobble.  How does the one in the 2nd video achieve that?

The pipe is 3" - about a half inch wider than the spray can. The shop rag holds it against the side wall, plus allows you to retrieve the can. If you don't hold on tight, it takes on quite a wobble.

I'm not sure the wobble is as important as the cyclone action it gets from spinning so fast. I don't think the wobble in Adam's video was intentional.

I'll try to get a video of the one I made so you can see it.

Well it looks like It works well, and it's obviously very cheap, so I guess I'll have to give this a shot too! I think I have some three inch PVC, all I need is a test plug.

I watched the 2nd video. I was hoping he would paint it camo so he would lose it in his shop.

 All I have to do to lose stuff in the shop is set it down!  My garage isn't very big, but yesterday I spent a half hour looking for a beacon light on a 4' pole. Ended up being right out in the open.

. When I first started working as an e ginger, we had an old, semi retires engi per that had a work room in the product engineering area.  He would come in and tinker with stuff several days a week.  His toom was less than organized.

 

When he would set something down and loose it, he would take a Poloroid picture of his bench, and look for the item in the picture.  His theory was that the lost item had temporarily rotated into another dimension that we can't see,  but a Poloroid camera could detect.

I purchased a skill reciprocating saw at a garage sale. The blade mounting component was broken. After finding out i was NLA I turned it into a paint shaker. BIL donated a shoe with velcro straps. If straps are slightly loose the can will rotate while being shaken. Turn it on and walk away for a few minutes. BIL’s shoe was big enough to accommodate the tall cans also.

What I was originally searching for was a gallon paint shaker. 
 

Anyone have a good DIY hack?

After wasting several partial cans of spray paint because nozzles dried out or got paint caked over them, when I am finished with spraying, I now remove the spray nozzle and blow it out with blow gun on compressor to clear any residual paint. I often times also blow a shot of air into then tube sticking out of the top of the spray can.  I lightly replace the nozzle and I'm ready for the next time.  I sometimes  also soak valves in acetone and the blow them out with compressed air.

 

Some time ago, on a similar topic, I suggested (at your own risk) to re-pressurize spray can paint that has lost it's pressure.  I have a valve stem that has been cut off and I place the cut off end of valve stem over the tube sticking out of the top of the spray can and using an air chuck blow air into the spray can.  Don't over pressurize the can or we'll be reading about you under "bumps and bruises".   Also, I'll warn  you to wear latex gloves otherwise you'll likely end up with colorful fingers.

I know!  Build an attachment For one of your horses that connects to the PTO.

Ahhh! Now I have a reason to buy another Wheelhorse with a shaky Kohler!  Do I cut a hole in the hood and place the bucket of paint on the head or baling wire it to the side of the engine?  Decisions, decisions!

I was thinking more of an eccentric pulley, attached by a long, bouncy belt, connected to the rear. 

Heck, with that setup, you can drive around on uneven ground to amplify the results!  Your plans would benefit from that, too...

I remember seeing one that was attached to a tractor rim. The guy just drove around his barnyard with a 5 gallon can of paint attached to one of the wheels.

Love the ideas and entertainment here but @953 nut has a valid point. 

 

Your muscle & bone structure is very literally  "use it or lose it".

 

How many cans are we shaking? 

 

If there's a legitimate reason such as  personal physical health or limitation then a mechanical shaker would be a GREAT idea. 

 

But otherwise....  keep using your people chassis or it won't be there when you really need it.
