Beap52 1,179 #1 Posted Sunday at 08:37 PM Out and about this afternoon strolling in the back yard and found five morel mushrooms. I included this in gardening because for the past few years, I've been "seeding" the by dumping the water I wash the morels in as well as their "roots" along my fence row. Whether this is why I have found morels for the past two years has any affect or not, I don't know. I didn't have my camera with me so didn't get a picture of them before I brought them to the house. Anyway, this is a nice mess for me because I'm the only one who eats them in my family. I might grab them electric bike and hit the rails to trails bike trail and see if I can find a few there.
953 nut 57,858 #2 Posted Sunday at 10:21 PM Dead oak trees that have fallen into ditches with full shade are a ideal breading ground for morels.
Beap52 1,179 #3 Posted Monday at 12:41 AM For the past couple of hours I've been watching videos on make morel slurry. Pretty interesting and I'm going to make some as I have been pouring the water I wash them in whereas the slurry has other ingredients that may help it be more successful. One fellow's video "how to grow morels at home" looks like he has been really successful. I've got various species of oak trees, several rotting (17 years) stumps along a fence row which I hope will be a good place. I'm also going to try to "seed" the dedicated asparagus bed as someone suggested that would be a good spot. I could provide shade in the spring with netting if I see fit.
Beap52 1,179 #4 Posted Monday at 11:37 PM I did spend a couple of hours along the rail road trail this afternoon and only found two. The grass and weeds are getting so tall so I'm not likely to head out again. One fellow had probably ten in a bag. This area is pretty close to town and we decided it was hunted by several folks. My crappie fishing neighbor and I have decided to cook a mess of fish and mushrooms along with some home made onion rings for lunch tomorrow. I also made a slurry of mushroom spores that I'll be spreading along by back fence in an effort to raise my own morels. It seems consensus is that had a 40% success rate. Beap52 1,179 #6 Posted Tuesday at 10:36 PM The end results. Neighbor had crappie, I had morels and onions. It's not the two plates of food, it's the sampling before filling the plates that causes the belt to be too tight all afternoon. Scott and I ate 'till our hearts content then sat around telling lies. Good neighbors are a blessing.
