spedini 0 #1 Posted Saturday at 02:44 PM I've got an RJ59 that is very difficult to get rolling without lifting the front tires. It even threw me off once. I try ever so gently to get rolling, but I'm spooked. Lowest possible rpm on the engine helps very little. Is there a way to make the pulleys and belt less "grabby"? It's all or nothing. Is there more than one type of belt and do I have the wrong one? Add front end ballast? Just a little graphite on the belt? Are the pulleys supposed to be painted or bare metal? It's frustrating and I'm a little spooked. Thank you. Arnie
wallfish 17,485 #2 Posted Saturday at 03:59 PM Make sure the engine pulley groove is clean. No paint, no rust in the groove. A wire brush with the engine running makes for a quick cleaning of it. Second, use a lawn mower type 29" belt and NOT a rubber belt or a cog belt that are designed for electric motors. The belt needs to slip in the engine pulley groove for the clutching effect when the pedal is pushed and let out slowly. Then it should grab tight when full pressure is applied by the spring when the pedal is released all the way.
peter lena 9,087 #3 Posted Saturday at 07:33 PM @spedini personally like the TRACTOR SUPPLY belts , very solid / durability , does every linkage , movement point have penetrating oil , rust run out ? like a follow up to penetrating oil . with red aerosol extension tube , verify it all moves easily , what gear are you in ? 1st gear or reverse , would be good for a test . you might also have related pulleys rusted / binding / releasing , your clutch pedal should be smooth / easy, personally thinking this is all binding rust related , have seen so many clutch pedals , covered in rust , on swing areas , think its a simple find , pete
