HyperPete 482 #1 Posted Friday at 05:28 PM I'm mid-attempted oil change on this hydro. I was able to remove the 1/4" hex drive bolt on front of the "hump", but the one behind the hump stripped. I'm not sure that's a drain anyway. I was under the impression it uses 10W30 or 10W40, but it is filled with ATF. The same for my ARK500 Series FEL. On that, I followed the instructions to 'purge' the fluid prior to a refill, but was only able to drain about 3 Qt. After refilling with 10W30 and burping it a few times, I jacked the front of the tractor up for the transmission service. Pure ATF overflowed out of the vent at the top of the right FEL tower. So, #1) Do I just continue using ATF in the transmission or is there another drain plug I'm missing? Where is the fill? #2) what do I do about the FEL fluid? Will the ATF & motor oil mix & just give me a high detergent motor oil mix? Should I use it for a bit, then do another oil change with 10W30? I'll create a link in my FEL thread pointing here. May have to flush system. This is the info I am seeking. How do I flush the system? At this point there is undoubtedly more 10W30 than ATF in the system. gt14rider 839 #9 Posted Sunday at 11:43 AM So you put 10w30 in the FEL , I don't have a FEL but you would need to drain the fluid reservoir, find the lowest line, try to drain as much as you can. Refill with atf and repeat. Hopefully someone with more experience on the FEL will chime in. But I would not run it to much till you get it drained. Good luck. HyperPete 482 #10 Posted Sunday at 02:16 PM I will refill the Ark 508 QM FEL with 10W30 as that is what it listed in the manual. Had I known it would not drain thoroughly, I would have stuck with ATF, but at this point, I have committed to the motor oil.. I guess, since I have done it once, I'll just do it again.
