D_Mac 9,156 #1 Posted April 18 Like I said in the things people toss thread I picked this up on CL under the FREE section. Owner had it since new. Been sitting in his shed unused for over 10 years he told me. Included was the original owners manual. I took it home and found out that the throttle and choke were just stuck. Could not budge them. Penetrating oiled them and slowly got them to move freely back and forth. Took air clearer off and spritzer it with starting fluid and gave it a pull and it fired to life. Doing so it spit out the biggest nest and a cloud of seeds and dust. Tried it with fuel and no luck. Couldn't get it to run on fuel. Ordered a new cheap 12 dollar carb for it that came last night. I will be installing it this afternoon when I get home. Tires hold air. After seeing if it will run I will check the blades and change the oil. Fingers crossed. One man's trash is another man's treasure. PO assumed someone would take it for scrap. 1
WHX?? 50,778 #2 Posted April 18 Good ole Techy Sno Champ motor. I've got one on a POS MTD blower that is a one puller. One of Tecumseh's better motors but still non rebuildable. They seem to last forever tho. Yep carbs are cheap in the jungle and I have had pretty good luck with them. Might want to check the tins for mouse house.
D_Mac 9,156 #3 Posted April 18 I won't keep it long enough. Just want toget it running and pass it on. Manual says it can chip a 3 inch diameter branch. I will put it to the test when running.

squonk 42,584 #5 Posted April 18 I had the exact same chipper except with a Briggs and Scrap-Em. It says 3" capacity but hang onto your teeth fillings. Sold it to a friend of mine for $100 trade in credit on my 875. He said it works well on leaves.
D_Mac 9,156 #6 Posted April 18 Yeah @squonk I have had a few in the past. All 5hp. Never one with a 9hp. I would be surprised if it could chew up a 3 inch diameter branch. Plus takes up way to much floor space in the garage. I need to start work on that Charger. Right now the Charger is outside and the chipper is in the garage so it dosnt fill up with water. D_Mac 9,156 #7 Posted April 18 (edited) Success ! And the previous owner thought it was scrap. I will say for a 12 dollar carb it worked really well. Choke is going in different direction then the original but no big deal. I didn't even have to adjust it. Changed the oil on it now it's ready to go. 20250418_144342.mp4 Edited April 18 by D_Mac
ebinmaine 70,804 #8 Posted April 19 Good save on that one. Several years ago I bought a very similar machine but painted green. I bought it as an experiment to see if we felt a chipper would be a usable tool in our arsenal. The answer was: yes, but.... It needed to be much more powerful. That's what led me to own the two Mackissic chipper shredders I've had since. That 3" input size .... Yyyeeeaaahhh. That's what we call a technicality. It'll TAKE a 3" diameter stick. Yes. But unless that stick is made outta super incredibly soft wood like balsa or maybe styrofoam it ain't going through without EXTREME work and patience. I found that it was excellent for leaves. For wood, anything smaller than maybe broomstick diameter was OK.
D_Mac 9,156 #9 Posted April 19 Yeah I laughed when I saw 3 inch diameter. I'm not even going to mess with the blades. I'm going to use my most used tool in my box on it, the "FOR SALE " sign . 1
